The seats on this s2000 are pretty rough. Is there anything that can be done or is it a lost cause. Also what is reccomended for a tear in a convertible top and what should I use to clean and protect the top. Thanks in advance.
Honestly, tear in the top...there MAY be some way to fix it properly, but I do not know of it...you will have to shop around. And those seats are ROUGH!! But do not necessarily look beyond saving. They will just need a good, quality reconditioning. Are you planning on doing the work yourself? You will need to sand and refine that leather, filling in those cracks, then when it is all smooth and nice, you will need to dye it back to proper color. I have not done this type of work myself but there are write-ups here showing others doing very beautiful work!
Oh, and I forgot...to clean and protect the top, you can use MANY things from an APC and a general fabric sealant, to the most preferred method, go buy some RAGG Top from Phil @ DetailersDomain.com It is a kit with the cleaner and protectant in one package.
2nd the vote for Ragg Top products, their cleaner and top protectant/conditioner. The company that makes this product, the Haartz company is from Germany and they get to make many convertible tops for all the cars. They recommend their products for their top material. And they work !! Last year, I Detailed a MINI Cooper Convertible for some nice people who then shipped it to Florida to their new home. It was on the bottom of the trailer and the car above it leaked oil onto the newly Detailed with Ragg Top products top. The oil sat on the top and ran down but did not penetrate the fabric. They were so happy! Good luck with your project! Dan F
When I bought my 2003 S2000 it had around 3 or 4 rips just like that, mostly where the metal frame is and rubs on the material. I replaced the top. It was about $600 from a junk yard in great condition. I did all the work myself, took about 6 hours but I didn't know what I was doing. People forget to take care of their tops and then this happens.
thanks for the advice. I am planning on doing it myself. Besides the one section of the drivers seat, the seats actually look pretty good.
