[HELP] 1 step for Lexus - Advice Needed

Looking for some professional advice on doing a 1 step on my starfire pearl Lexus IS350. Paint in general is in very good condition as I've taken relative good care in my wash process with the exemption of a few automatic car washes this past winter. :sorry:

Now I'm fairly set on my product in which I decided on SONAX 4/6 after much reading. Yes it comes with a premium but I don't mind paying seeing this is for use on my personal vehicle only and provides good correction with great finish. However I am more than open to suggestions.

I am mostly uncertain on my pad choice. Do I go foam (if so what type/color?) or wool (again which type?) to get the best results? I will be using a PC 7424xp as my weapon of choice.

I've been a long time lurker and have done a lot of reading but still couldn't make up my mind on what combination to go with. Any help is much appreciated.

Do you have MF pads and what polishes do you have?

 

If you are using Sonax 4/6 and the swirling is light, green B&S ( thanks Dave! ) or Optimum ( MIcrocut ) MF disc should do the job.

 

I don't have any pads or polishes yet.

The swirling is pretty light from what I can tell, this color (I guess white in general) hides the swirling well. I will try to get pictures later today.

 

Duragloss 501/601 will really make that pearl white pop. I love this combo on white and silver, for deep cleaning and light swirls. Sorry can't comment on the Sonax, haven't tried it yet. This is a one-step with these two products on a brand new Toy Highlander with a 5.5 white polish pad.

That's a great comparison shot! After your recommendation I did some reading on DG 501 and found out this is pretty much an AIO with great cleaning properties and protection.

Now perhaps this is entirely my fault with using the term 1 step but I'm looking to apply an LSP after correction. Would this product/combination allow for that? I'm not entirely sure how the 601 is used or comes into play either.

 

501 is an AIO with long lasting protection and it can be topped. 601 is a bonding agent and allows 501 to be topped with a LSP of your choice immediately because it accelerates the curing time.

So many LSP's to chose from, do you want a coating like EXO or Opti?, sealant like Sonax Polymer net Shield? Carnuba paste wax?..........etc Going for looks or longevity?

 

Been doing some reading on this combination especially the 501 and a lot of people rave about it. For the price I don't think I can go wrong. Looks like you may have changed my mind on the Sonax for now and give this a try. What type of correction/cut would you say this product has using a white polishing pad?

As for a LSP I was looking at using Power Lock for ease of application, longevity and the fact that it seems to make light/white colored cars shine.

 

Very little, light swirls and scuffs, but it cleans very well. Pads are usually black depending on car.

 

It sounds like you can easily get your paint perfect based on your desciption of very light defects. Lexus paint is easy to correct. SONAX 4/6 or Menzerna PF203 on a grren Uber or white LC pad both make for great 1-step polishes. I would then use the DG501 afterwards as a paint cleanser to make the white look are white as possible. Then top it with another sealant or wax.
