GM HAS EMERGED FROM BANKRUPUTCY: Have I been missing something:shead: Didn't they just borrow a Gazzilion dollars from us:shead: Have they paid that Debt in full:shead: Someone want to elaborate, I tried listening to Kudlow this morning but I was afraid his Head was gonna explode:giggle:
They have come out as the "new" GM, no they have not paid back the debt to US tax payers but will start to pay off that debt as of now. Was listening to the news conference this morning before I had to leave for class. Seems like they are releasing some new cars, getting rid of others and closing down some plants.
Yea, we did. But it's ok! All of the crap assets went to some other place and the remaining ones are now The "New" GM, in a cute new green color logo) Awesome how that works. But let's say if a person loses their job and ends up foreclosing, we'll take his house cars and anything of value and rake them through the coals.... Gotta love it. (Intense Sarcasm for those that didn't pick up on it)
the only way they can afford to start paying their debt off (and I wish them luck) is buy start making quality vehicles, that are eye catching and good looking in customers' eyes. They need to stop making ugly, change completely (perhaps borrow some things from European GM - Opel), and start over...And Buick needs to change completely (remove that ugly headlights) or be shut down. C'mon, GM, you can do it!
I will be honest if GM and Ford would both try to bring some cars from their European division both would be doing better. I dont get it, if GM brought over Opel cars under the GM brand they would sell.
They have been. Other than the Outlook, Saturn vehicles are all Opels. The Chevy Malibu is an Opel. Pontiac consists of Holden vehicles.
I've seen Opel, and I tell you the difference between Opel and Chevy is like watching TV in HD, and standard. Number one ugly thing that GM has is its boring GREEN odometer lightning that they have on ALL their cars in America...Why? There is a few other minor details that make it ugly...I said it before, and will say it again, unless I see them bringing those cute cars they sell in Europe, and increase their quality standards, - I'm purchasing Japanese and German...look at new Accord and Malibu...I don't know what you will choose, but I'm choosing Accord... What I really like about this forum is when I asked what SUV other would purchased, and perhaps help me choose one, and listed Japanese and German SUVs only, nobody critisized me for that...and when I asked that question on "A"nother forum, many asked how come I don't want to buy a GM vehicle, and that I "should give GM another chance"... I think I'd rather loose money in casino, then give GM another chance... Sorry if it hurts anybody, if you want GM to stay afloat, please have them stop making UGLY. And speaking of Saturn, it remains me of cat Garfield on local Sacramento Bee newspaper comic section. And I totally agree with Jeremy Clarkson (TOP GEAR, BBC America) with his opinion on Buick Le Sabre...those who watched that episode remember.
Supercharged, how can you praise the GM European brands when all but one vehicle in Saturns line up is Opel/Holden/Vauxhall? Pontiac was the same way. Buick is going to be too. As well as Chevy.
Exactly: 2010 Ford Focus RS - First Drive - Motor Trend Europe only? People would buy that over here, without a doubt, but Ford is too stupid to see that. I guess the regular hundred something horsepower is the only POS we get.
Unfortunately the cost to convert this car to American standards would probably be outrageous and be priced out of market value. It wouldn't be worth it to Ford knowing that they would only sell a handful of these since the price would probably be equal to the Mustang. Plus, hatchbacks count towards a very small percentage in total US sales.
I think the best and peaceful way for me to express is you can stick with your opinion, and I'll stick with mine...there is no wrong choice. However if you ask me, I do want all those bells and whistles, which now finally Dodge Challenger has (first american muscle car with HID xenon lights stock), and all other eye catching details, that Europeans go extra mile, while domestic GM is WASTING time playing golf...nothing wrong with my choice, nothing wrong with your choice, I just told you WHY.
GM is going to be think more global like Toyota and Honda. Toyota and Honda sell the same basic cars in many countries in the world. This has great economies of scale plus they can put more money into the actual car cost (better components, better technology) than GM who had cut corners on design to make up for the overpriced labor, benefits, and poor management decisions of the past. With fewer divisions, I would like to think they will be less constrained by holding back on Chevrolet to insure Buick is viewed as the upscale design. That is, they should let Chevys be as refined as Buicks (quietness, upscale interiors). However, I do not think the labor/management situation is any better so that is not going to help. GM through bankruptcy is allowed to shed debt (unneeded assets like out of date plants, etc).
Thanks for everyones response.:worship2: Thats another thing I love about this site...I don't have to watch the News to find out whats going on in the World.:giggle:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors filed for bankruptcy protection early Monday, a move once viewed as unthinkable that became inevitable after years of losses and market share declines capped by a dramatic plunge in sales in recent months. The bankruptcy is likely to lead to major changes and job cuts at the battered automaker. But President Obama and GM CEO Fritz Henderson both promised that a more viable GM will emerge from bankruptcy. In the end, even $19.4 billion in federal help wasn't enough to keep the nation's largest automaker out of bankruptcy. The government will pour another $30 billion into GM to fund operations during its reorganization. U.S. Judge Robert Gerber, the bankruptcy judge will oversee GM's bankruptcy, ruled Monday that GM will have access to $15 billion in government funds immediately. He will make a final ruling on bankruptcy financing approval on June 25. Taxpayers will end up with a 60% stake in GM, with the union, its creditors and federal and provincial governments in Canada owning the remainder of the company. Owners of GM cars should see little change as a result of the bankruptcy since warranties will still be honored. But there will be plenty of pain caused by the bankruptcy and the company's efforts to stem losses. GM will shed its Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and Saab brands and cut loose more than 2,000 of its 6,000 U.S. dealerships by next year. That could result in more than 100,000 additional job losses if those dealerships are forced to close. IMO one of the things sadly lacking with GM has always been "Quality"
:shead:As long as the Messiah(Osama) has PROMISED everything will be allright, then maybe I can start sleeping at Night again:giggle: So WE Own 60% of GM now.....:shead: I think I'm heading over to My Local Chevy dealer to get MY VETTE. I will bring Cash if I can Drive off with a Clear Title while only Paying the other 40% they got coming.:giggle:
Expensive labor is their problem, and benefits...I've been to Toyota factory in bay area, and I tell you, they manage their labor completely different...If a person stand without doing anything for a minute or two, their sups already questioning it...I really doubt that is the case with GM.
