Good afternoon!! Clients have been friends for years. They contacted me about a 2010 Toyota Prius they recently purchased simply because things did not look right with the appearance. Upon arrival to inspect and quote, the passenger rear panel & bumper had been repainted, simple enough. Whoever resprayed the finish never taped off anything and over sprayed the entire car with clear!!! Finish felt like a nail file. It was the worst case of anything I had ever seen!!! Panel in question. See tape markings?? And this was the view from inside of vehicle looking out passenger window... Oh yes....we love great challenges!! Upon arrival...major buffer trails from body work.. Defects, blemishes and stuff.. Hard to see, but that is over spray on door... Painted rear quarter....geeshhhh... Instead of pulling tail light lens, lets just try to tape and paint over lens....just sayin. Really odd spot on drivers door...did not come out totally... So, during prep I had to make a choice. Do I Iron X?? Or is all the over spray covering fallout and would just be a waste of product. I ended up doing a simple wash after door jambs, tires wheel wells and gas tank. No engine detail. So I figured hey, I will just clay bar it to remove over spray and go from there...HAHAHAHA...would not even touch it. So I tried D/A polisher with M/F pad and Correction Compound....nope. Tried Meg's 205 with M/F pad..nope. 205 w/foam cut pad...ahhhh...no! I was SO close to calling client and telling them you need to have it wet sanded down first, then I can finish it from there. But knowing budgetary concerns that was not an option and I was not going to have this be a wet sanding adventure for me!! So I brought out the big guns!! It worked SO good on the Escalade I thought I would give it a try, after all, it was my last ditch effort! Lets rock this Prius!! WOW!! Off to a great start!! Cutting over spay and defects in one step...YES!!! Love this color!! Rear deck lid... I just like this shot.... Hitting tail lenses.... Much better!! \ Cleaning up resprayed rear panel....2 to 3 passes to smooth it out... Not perfect, but a lot better!! Cutting pad half way thru correction...swap it out!! Made a few more fast passes and knocked down that roughness... Same door that looked rough with over spray...BAM!!! Next door.. Remember, this is still running with cutting pad,Makita rotary polisher on 1800 rpm & Meg's 205 with a lot of water misting.. Cleaning up headlights.. Finished cutting!! 6 hours and it IS as smooth as it looks!! Second stage was Meg's D/A Polisher w/Finishing Pad & Finishing Wax... I should have tried out for Blue Man Group!!!! Interior was super simple... It's time!! Reveal time!! Repainted panel.. And final shot is totally clear window's now!!! I used the cutting process on glass to bust thru clear over spray. Whewwwww....great challenge and client is out of town for a few more days and can not wait to here their reaction!!! Learn and apply as much as you can!! Knowledge is power, and it can save the day!!! Shine on guys and ladies!! Shine on!! Hoover
