this was my first detail outside of my own car. I've washed and waxed a few cars but never done any paint correction on any cars besides my own. Critiques/Suggestions are welcome and encouraged. Thx guys Did a light paint correction yesterday on a black 2007 Mustang GT-CS. i was not aware of how dirty this car was when I came by, I just knew it could use a light swirl removal, some wax and the normal stuff. I'll let the pics do the talking... Now onto the wheels… Things you do not see, the rear bumper felt like sandpaper. I kid you not, I had to claybar the rear bumper twice before it felt somewhat smooth. I did not get any process shots, only a few "afters" since it was just me and my buddy (who just so happens to be the owner of the car). We were definitely fighting the clock on this job. So I'll explain what I did…. 1. Wash + Clay I want to upgrade my wash and clay. Used Mothers for both. Was not happy with the way the Mothers spray detailer hazed so fast, even in the shade. The wheels were cleaned with Meguire's Wheel Brightener, a Boar's Hair Brush and it was my first time using the Daytona Speed Master wheel brush. (I love that thing!!!). I used DP All Purpose Cleaner to clean the tires and the wheel wells. The wheels unfortunately turned out to have some pitting on the chrome in the corners 2. Trim/Dressing Tires, Wheel Wells, Plastic Trim were all dressed with Croftgate USA Tire Shine. First time using this product, I was fairly Impressed. I prefer Optimum Tire Shine for the actual tires however I like how the trim and wheel wells turned out with the Croftgate. 3. Polish/Swirl Remover Porter Cable, Green Foam Pad + Pinnacle XMT Swirl Remover #2. By the time I got to the back of the car I realized that I will need extra pads rather than one for the whole car. Still learning. I was happy with the results on most of the car however the rear bumper could've used a more aggressive approach. Still some swirls and light hazing. 4. Glaze Porter Cable, Black Foam Pad + Pinnacle XMT Glaze Finish. This is where I was really happy with certain parts of the car. I think I'll hold onto this product. 5. Wax Hand wax with Pinnacle Signature Series II. Unfortunately, I was not able to do a Sealant as the car would not be staying with me overnight. I moved to a hand wax. This was definitely a rewarding stage. Here are some during and after pics. These shots were taken after the Polish was applied. The inside of the wheel had some sort of tarnishing that I could not get out with normal scrubbing. My hands could not fit behind his brakes. Possibly going to remove the wheels next time and see what I can do. Taken the morning after (pics at night did not do it justice). The little line across the door is the edge of the GT-CS stripe.
id say pretty damn good job for the first time at it! congrats and keep up the good works. oh and yeah, definitely get yourself an assortment of pads!
Looks great for your first time! As other said, get some more pads (3 min per color) and you will be golden. Oh yeah like dsms said NEED MORE PICSSSSSSSSSS!
wow, thanks guys. Made me smile for sure! The owner of the car is really happy, whch in turn makes me happy. When I place my next order with Autogeek I'll be picking up some more pads. Unless there is a cheaper place???
Well Ken at Autowerkes Exclusive( 911 Fanatic) can get you some great Lake Country pads. Those are my preference. I think you just missed his 30% off LC pad sale though.
Very nice job for your 1st attempt on someone else's car. It makes it harder when the owner is right there too...just added pressure. I love the wheels on that car, they really make it. What kind are they? The reason I ask is that I did a Mustang about 2 months ago with Zenetti wheels on it and they look similar. HERE is that post. Get yourself some more pads; I, too, recommend LCC pads and look at the Menzerna line, starting with the power finish and then expand from there. You should be very proud.
def agree more after pics hahaha but excellent work especially for ur first go around. congrads man and def pick up some more pads lol
