Now that we got the least favorite part of detaling (majority wins--interiors suck). What would you say would be your favorite part of detailing. Would it be the finished product in your eyes or the finished product in your customers eyes. There is a great feeling of satisfaction in cleaning cars, it makes me feel like i've accomplished something and for some reason nobody i know believes me when i say this, its relaxing. But bear in mind, i dont do this for a living like some. Happy Detailing. Heath
i agree 100%. i myself enjoy the finished product, its rewarding that i can do such a job on a car and make it look better than the showroom. i have not yet solicited myself to other yet as i have stopped detailing for 3 years, but the spirit is still there. everyday at work driving the work truck, i find excellent examples of vehicles that could use a detail job and most of them being brand new big diesel duallies, Mercs, and BMW's. a lot of them could just use a nice wash and wax with wheel and trim dressing and it will look extra clean. I can honestly say that once i get back to detailing again, i know that once i take a step back and look at the finished product. get one of my folding seats, get a soda or a beer, and just gaze at my accomplishment until my drink is done.
I think my favorite part is after the LSP, looking at the reflections in the top of the fenders where the surface transitions from horizontal to vertical. Looking at the distorted mirror reflections is where it's at.
My favorite part is the polishing phase. Watching swirls and other defects go away. Nothing like knowing what you're working towards.
Correcting the defects just lights me up. My greatest satisfaction is driving downtown at night and seeing the reflections of all the neon signs and lights off the hood.
My favorite part is when you've been correcting paint inside all day, you're sealing it inside, then waxing it inside until it's done... AND THEN PULL IT OUT IN THE FULL SUN! It's always going to be a surprise to you how it looks in the full sun. Great stuff!
My favorite part is when i'm done doing the correction part and after a 50/50 wipe down or prep-sol, i see my work has pay off, that's when i know it's LSP time and knowing the customer is going to be floor!.......
My favorite part is buffing off that 1st panel after a paint correction and seeing the revelation of perfect paint for the first time on that vehicle.
My favorite part is when Im finished with the car and I know Ive done everything CORRECTLY. Impressing the customer is one thing, but when Im done with the car I want to impress other detailers that have HIGH standards.
As others have stated, doing that paint correction is really awesome. When you see swirl marks and scratches just falling off, it really puts a smile your face and you can't seem to take enough pics. But, when a customer comes up and asks me how the hell I get the paint that soft really puts a smile on my face. Nice to know you can make sheetmetal soft.
personally, I like washing the best, don't know why. Coming in close second is staring at the finished results of complete detail. Pete
My favorite part of detailing is getting to razzz the bollocks of out customer's cars when they drop them off. hehehehe I MAKE THE JOKE!
My favorite part of detailing is when the customer takes delivery, and seeing them look at every nook and cranny.. bending down just like me and looking at the various angles The when they asks how long the protection will last, you tell them and then they say "well can we just schedule the next appointment right now"... the Bomb-bizzle!!imp:
My favorite part of detailing is when I discover a product that works... Seriously, I'm a product junkie and throw everything at a car that I can. Take UltraFina for example. When Rydawg and I started using this product several months ago, people PM'd me like crazy on autopia, wondering why I was using a 3M product. Since then, I pretty much everybody I know has made the switch and said its the best finishing polish they have used for most conditions and paints. The only people I know that haven't agreed (which is fine because its all on how it works for us) are people who sell Menzerna or one poster who really seems to support Menzerna. This is the fun part for me, trying new methods and products and trying to find the best, only to realize that the best doesn't exist. LOL, its like I enjoy banging my head against a wall, and can't stop.
I can't say I have a favorite part. I like getting lost in what I am doing. :meditation: Thinking about nothing other than the task. ohh of course listening to Boston or Aerosmith! :headbang:
