It was a real treat to work on this car, a '72 Stingray with an LS1 dumped into it!!! I didn't realize this until I popped the hood though, I started the car and WHOOMMM!! Man this think screams power!!! Another note is that the paint felt like 30 grit sandpaper... the customer had it sprayed in Dallas and the company left it outside, and well there was a TON of over spray. But good ole Riccardo took care of it! Onto the detail. Wheels/Tires/Wheels: All three were rinsed off, applied Tropi-care wheel cleaner to wheels and CG Grime reaper to the tires and wells. Agitated wheels with a grout sponge and barrels with the EZ detail brush. Tires agitated with tire brush and wells just power washed off as they weren't dirty at all. Later the wheels were sealed with Jetseal and tires dressed with SV Pneu. Wash Process: Rinsed off the whole car then pre-treated the front end, windshield and lower panels with a mixture of LA Awesome APC and CG Citrus Wash Clear. In the foam cannon was a mix of CG Strong Wash, CWC. So I foamed up the car and let it do its thing for a couple of minutes. In my wash bucket were 2 grit guards and used Zymol sponge on the vehicle, then once all washed off, re-rinsed. For drying I sprayed the car down in QD, then used one of Justin's drying towels primed in QD, along with a Tropi-care WW drying towel also primed with QD. Interior Detail: Vaccuumed out the interior and then cleaned the floor mats and carpet with folex/CG lightening fast cleaner and a carpet brush. Then treated them with CG odor neutralizer+. Doors and panels cleaned with Meg's APC and various brushes and then dressed with OIP. Leather seats cleaned with CG Leather cleaner+ and agitated with a Meg's interior brush. Dressed with Tropi-care leather conditioner. Exterior Correction: The vehicle desperately needed to by clayed. I started off with Riccardo and it turned my clay RED!! So to be doubly sure I got it off, I went back over it a second time with Sonus green clay, and clayed the front and rear windshield, and boy were they bad!! Used ONR as the lube. This vehicle was set up for a single stage polish, so I decided to go with SIP and white 3m, Cobra cross grove and LC flat pads. Once all polished I did an IPA wipe down to ensure all oils were removed before moving onto LSP. Base Coat LSP: I decided at the last minute to use CG EZ creme glaze via black lc pad to kinda help fill in what wasn't corrected but to also help with the wetness factor, let it set for about 10 minutes before buffing off. LSP Top Coat: Well, let's just say I'm probably the only person in the world to mix Vintage and Mystery together:yikes: But hey it worked out in the end and gave an incredible amount of depth and wetness to the vehicle, it was also very easy to buff off!!!! Befores: A little foam action: And the nasty over spray: And a little peek at the LS1!! Some before/after shots of correction: (I suck at taking these shots:sorry And the afters!!:
nice detail man...that clay was nastyyyy ...im waiting on that guy with the z06 to get back from SEMA...ill contact you when he calls me
Amazing work Mike! That overspray was really nasty! Yeah it does seem to sit a bit high but maybe that's because of the bigger wheel/tire combo and its compensation for a heavier engine (I'm not really sure if it's truly heavier than the OEM engine).
Looks good saltine!!! That clay was nasty!! Those wheels look way to big for that car. I bet AR has a few thoughts on the car hehe
Thanks guys.... yeah the stance threw me off as well, but oh well! they are stock Vette wheels, I don't know if they are for that particular model, but vette wheels NTL
Good job Mike! The stock motor form '72 is a cast iron block with aluminum heads, the LS1 is an all aluminum engine so the lighter weight will make the FRONT END have that lifted stance, but im stumped why THE WHOLE car has that 4x4 look be body style/generation before the "new" or current ones
eh, i sent the guy who owns the car the link to the write up and maybe he'll chime in why it looks that way.
probably because those are at least 17 inch wheels where the car probably came with 15 inch wheels those look like mustang Saleen wheels.
Dust..nice job on the 'Vette. I agree with the others, its profile looks a little goofy. Not your fault obviously.
here's an update on the height on the vehicle: Hey Mike, I don’t want to register to make a post. Just tell them it sits high because they are 18” wheels…obviously not stock from back then, like the rest of the car. It also sits high because I just got the entire suspension redone a month ago and the guy says it needs to settle but I never drive it, before the retard who owned it before me had it lowered all the way onto the bump stops which look good but ate the suspension/bushings up. Nice write-up btw, any chance I could get you to email me all those pics?
