Today I bought some dg 501 from carquest and after reading a thread here about how the products are old and worthless so i opened up my 501 and notice the consistency is a little more watery than what i was expecting(something like sip). So my question is what is the consistency of it and what can i expect from it when i detail my truck tomorrow?
It is a thin consistency imo. I don't know that you will go WOW, but if you top it with a Aquawax from DG it looks really good. It is just a good sealant, and I have not found it to make any color stand out once applied.
well my plan is sip white pad , 501 white pad, blackfire blue pad x2 I want to make sure the white paint is really clean to take ful advantage of the blackfires look
I am a little confused now, are you talking about two different products or are you getting your numbers mixed up??
i believe hs is referring to the fact that the product could have possibly been sitting on the shelf for a extended period of time and the product might have separated a little bit . . . . . so he's asking what the product in all aspects should look like ( a good bottle of 501) as his bottle appears to be pretty watery.
If your carquest is anything like mine, they have wax products no one's likely seen in over 10 years sitting on the shelves. Mine still has an old bottle of Meguiars Medallion no one's ever bought. A lot of the duragloss stuff is really, really old. Thick dust on the products old... LOL However, they did get some new stock in the other day. It looks funny sitting next to the "old bottles".. You know, the bottles you can barely make out because the labels have degraded so much. You would think they would remove the old stuff, but the store MGR doesn't seem to care. No one in the store knows anything about the product, other than that they carry it. :shakehead:
105 over the 501 on white looks very good as well. Oh yeah, shake the bottle really well. Mine looked a little watery too.
501 is a greenish colour and is not too thick. It is a great paint cleaner. I use it as a final step before applying sealant. I do it by hand. However, if you have a white car, it is awesome with a white or green LCC pad. You will not believe the crap that will come out of the paint. It makes the white a real liquid shine. This is a highly under-rated product IMO. It also has some awesome sealant properties in it too so you could top it with either sealant or wax.
+1, my 501 is not too thick, not like other paint cleanser or aio though. However its fine. I also apply by hand before any sealant. If lazy top up with sealant, you can go straight from 501 + Aquawax, this combo will give you a satisfaction. Gdluck then
I love DG 501. It's a fantastic polish and sealant. I use it every summer when I prep my boat before putting it in the water. Top with Colly 845 and it still beads at the end of the summer...:applause:
well I used it yesterday and i have to admit it works pretty good, it left my white paint looking whiter, but where i was super impressed is on the chrome wheels and bumpers
Pat..it's funny you say that...I posted that very same combo for someone on here who was looking for boat detailing advice!
