4/30/13 im starting on my car with the little time i have off from work and other detailing projects i have. i will update the thread with new pics of the progress but my car is getting the full treatment. cut, polishing, jeweling, sealent, etc. i have a feeling it will take over 40+ hours when said and done. first, i 2 bucket method washed the car with dawn soap to strip any wax. i then used some adam's clay and bar'd the entire car. after claying, i washed it again. tomorrow, ill take pics with my light gun to show how bad it really is. i wont bore you with the wash pics. but here she is after, and the wife snapping a pic of me claying.
5/1/13 ok here we go, back at it. decided i was going to test the door out first. pic with my light gun 50/50 shots. i used surbuf pad w/ M101, blue DD foam pad w/ M205 more to come.
Nice Terminator. Paint is hammered, but, you're on the right track. Looking forward to the final pictures!
thanks. yeah i daily drove it for awhile and took it to buttonwillow a couple times so it really needs the work. i have to be careful though as in some spots the paint looks extremely beat up. i want to buy a paint gauge but cant justify the cost right now. needs and wants.
You say you used M105 with a Blue DD pad? M105 is a heavy compound, and the Blue DD pad is a very fine finishing pad. I can see in the picture the polished side obviously looks significantly better, but looks a little hazy. M105 is not normally something that is going finish down well. I think on this car being that it's black, you could really benefit from using a MUCH finer polish with that blue pad. Using the blue pad with something like Menzerna SF4500, or SF4000 if the paint is on the harder side to jewel the paint after polishing would really put the gloss over the edge. However, I will say that as everyone can see, the difference in the 50/50 shot is incredible.
^^^^ I agree, but I have read articles in which details have just used M105, variety of pads and varying technique to finish down nicely. Never tried this myself. Achieving a flawless finish with just Meguiar's M105 and a dual action polisher - Corvette Forum
i agree, it is still a little hazy and i will be going back with some menzerna for final polishing and jeweling.
I had an 03 Black Cobra a while ago.. Wish I never sold it, and I love the wheels! BBS RK Plasma's are so awesome, can't believe they stopped making them. Can't wait to see some more Progress!
started with the door and front fender tonight. got the half of the roof and hood done as well. this is just compounding and a med-light polishing. final polishing and jeweling will start once the cobra is completley comounded and polished. enjoy. before after, m101 and m205. 8 passes on each. 50/50 of hood
Seeing this makes me wish I'd of kept one of my trucks to DD and just bought a cobra over getting rid of both and buying my boss! It's looking great! Can't wait to see the final results!
Nice work Gabe and love the termi. I seen this over on SVTP also. I am actually doing a Mystichrome for a buddy of mine. I will post some pics when i'm done.
