[Autopia was sold by DavidB to a new company, Autopia LLC back in May 2009 David stayed on to assist in the transition] Originally posted by admin Under DavidB’s guidance Autopia.org community was started circa 2001 and soon established itself as the #1 internet destination for car detailing enthusiasts to share car appearance tips and tricks. David wrote a series of detailing articles, which are probably the most concise articles put together as of this date (also put out on a CD) which helped many answer detailing How-To type questions. I'm certain DavidB and the forum has been an inspiration to many (including me)
He had said something about this a while back, but everyone on the board or maybe a few are freaking out and running around like there heads are cut off. Pretty sure David would not hand the forum over to someone who would change it a lot.
He sold it to 3D. It'll be bad. I've already had bad dealing with 3D. they contacted me to make some products for me, I told them what I wanted and they sent me some samples to try. I was not happy with a single one. I told them this and they said not to give up that they'd send out different samples. I never got the samples or heard from them again. they stopped replying to me. Then I had trouble with then on autopia. Whenever I'd recommend a product to someone that Marie or Maria lady would pm me and tell me to try 3D instead. WTF? I knew it was going to be 3D from as close as David was working with them.
Company David was working with to help them make a new line HD Car Care. They make a sealant, HD Poxy, polish kind of like the new Menz 105/205 called UNO and a few other products.
Client acquired AUTOPIA.ORG community as part of a long-term strategy to transition from manufacture and distributor of products for professional car detailers, to manufacturer and direct-to-consumer distributor of car care products for consumers. 3D International retained me to create an eco-friendly car care brand for the car enthusiast market (see hdcarcare.com) - Resume | David Bynon
Is it you that made them start that non-sense "Challege" they will never have?? Thats great stuff. How can a company with no R+D department compete with the likes of 3M and Menzerna? Kind of like buying a relabelled Chemical guy / Warner product... ohhh, make it green, no red. Ohhh, make it with more silicone and less sealant... All a circle jerk. :bla2:
The traffic will be good for business. Autopia was free for pros, this joint charges. Go Nica... But I dont see why the transition of David Bynon out and 3D in is a problem to guys that want to post their work thier to get business? If you want to engage in shenanigans and kill a day typing on the internet, problems car arise. But for strictly busines, who gives a hoot.
I have learnt alot from David B's articles and with the hugh database of detailing tips in autopia. They certainly inspire me some way or the other. Hope the transition goes well.
Na that was me that they started the "challenge" for because I said I've seen multiple instances where it left holograms. I mean if it's a decent product, I'll go ahead and buy it, but I haven't seen ANY results that make me want to as of yet. Their HD protect, the trim/dash dressing is the only one that interests me so far. BTW, the challenge never happened yet, after almost a MONTH of no responses in the thread, they responded with "The date has been changed.", citing absolutely no reason for why they did not respond for that period of time, or why the date has been changed. Uh ok 3D car care, nice PR. Look, I'm not trying to be too mean here, but if you create a lot of hype for a product and fail to deliver, I hate that. If it actually is a good, amazing, revolutionary product I'll change my opinion, but for now they need to work on their PR and getting actual results and comparisons out there.
agreed.. there are many top notch detailers (with good info as well) on there, that i have much respect for...
Excellent. The power of one is amazing! Good for you! I guess they realized that there just inst a justifiable ROI to ship people all over the country on a totally subjective bet! Like I posted there, "That bet sounds great over a few vodkas, but the next day...ouch."
There is a quote on his web-page that says for 2010 he is going back to his roots and after doing the care care stuff he has found out he does not love it so I guess if you dont truly love it and can do something else and be good might as well.
When I want to login to Autopia, I say, "Lets go see the fights"... But Im sure the various moderators and Nica will keep is clean over here.
My start with detailing forums came at Autopia but I got so sick and tired of all the fighting that I went to AG and then they just wanted to push their own product and ignore everything else or give you crap for talking about it. I remember my first show and shine at AG, I was using Menzerna and everyone was like "what's that". I was very complimentary in my review of it and finally they brought it on board (NOT because of me..I'm not trying to imply that). When Carlos opened DB, I never looked back. I'm very comfortable here.
I agree Richy, DB is a no BS detailing site and Carlos / mods do a great job of keeping it that way!!!!
Its a sick little world! I don't get it. There cant be that much money in this that people need to be so aggressive and one-sided. I think the best guys are Phil from Detailers Domain, George at Detailed Image, and Bob from Danase. They know the boundaries, don't ram crap in your face, and dont place shills in the forums. Im sure there are other ethical retailers, I just know these three off the top of my head.
