well want to get new lens and having hard time deciding contenders sigma 28mm F1.8 (no HSM or autofocus over ride it seem) canon 50mm 1.4 sigma 30mm 1.4 canon 35mm f2 mixed reviews on photo websites anybody has them to chime in? i know cu2mike has 28 1.8 i think and seen his acura shots which look good but then review says its optical quality is not great.
I was talking to a guy who had a 7D when I went skiing last weekend and he recommended most the Sigma lenses since I was telling him I was looking for some too. I have heard good things about the 30mm. What body do you have?
i have canon t2i(550D) and my dad has 7D. not upgrading to full frame anytime soon so i dont think full frame lens is needed (sigma 30mm is not full frame lens)
I have the 50mm 1.4 with a T1i. Great combo. Very sharp and is great indoors. The 50mm 1.8 is apparently good as well. My friend has one and it gives near same quality as my 50mm @ 1.8. Price difference is large though, $350 for the 1.4 vs $100 for the 1.8.
I have an EF-28 f1.8 (paired to my XSi) and I love it - It's a great value and a great walk-around lens. It's a bit soft at 1.8 but that's usually the case when at max exposure. Here are a handful of shots I've taken with my 28 prime. f/7.1 f/2.8 Low light - ISO400 f/2.0 f/2.8 f/2.2
If I were you, I would loom into renting them for a day or so and see which one you like best. I have the thrifty fifty and it's a nice lens...
I guess the question is: What do you intend to shoot? A 50mm on a crop body will be pretty tight. It would be a good portrait lens though. But if you intend to shoot cars - you might want to consider something a bit wider.
yeah i mainly want it to shoot cars and will be used by my dad for portraits. just came back from taking pics of my friend's car with my 50mm 1.4, ill post pics later. i think i need something wider, for most cases it was fine but wider lens would have been easier
i belive my dad has 8-16 or something wide as that. i need prime period. we have 17-50 2.8, 15-85, 100-300, canon 200 f4L and i think it was 8-16 or 10-20
The classic rule of thumb is: you can generally take a step closer to your subject, but you can't always take a step back.
yeah know about that one . maybe ill get 30 or 28 and keep this 50 or sell it and my dad will get 85 1.8 http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/sy272004/ last 13 pics of car were done with 50 at 1.4. others are with 15-85
Any idea how fast you'd like the lens to be? 2.8? 2.0? 1.8? 1.4? This seems to be a pretty good lens for it's price: Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EF 24mm f/2.8 Reviews on Fred Miranda regarding this lens has also been pretty positive: FM Reviews - Canon EF 24mm f/2.8
i just dont see reason of getting lens in range thats covered by my sigma 17-50 F2.8 im sure quality difference i will not notice. slowest is 1.8 right now its canon 50mm 1.4, sigma 30 1.4 or sigma 28 1.8
50 1.8 50 1.4 is nice, but 50 1.8 is about 90% of the performance from what I've heard at a third of the price on the used market.
I've read good things about the Sig 30 1.4. I know I wouldn't mind having it on my t2i. I know it's not a prime but I'm dying for "the brick" canon 24-70 2.8L.
Cool, I'm sure you'll be happy. I have the nifty fifty since I'm going for the best bang for the buck lenses at this point in time. My most recent purchase was the Canon 28-135mm.
