BOAT MOLD!! Help!

So I got a call from a customer and said he needed his boat detailed and said he had some mold. Well mold is what he's got!

So I need some help as what to use on it. Thanks

 

Maybe a bleach and water solution? I dont know if that would effect the vinyl seats or not.

 

Thats what I was thinkin water and clorox.

i would try some cockpit premium but if that doesn't work try diluted bleach or a mixture of oxy clean and water

 

10-15% bleach solution should remove and kill any mold. You could just clean it off but want to make sure it is all killed off the surface that you may not be able to see this is were the bleach comes into play.

 

After hes done using it he needs to keep the top off untill its completely dry.


Isnt vinegar good for killing mold too?

 

this happened while in storage, there wasn't a top on it!

 

The mold should come off with strong APC solution and a scrub brush. If it has turned black, doesn't look like it in the pics, you're hooped. Once mold goes black, it stains. I wouldn't use bleach as it is very strong and will affect the stitching on the seats. Where was it stored? Seems highly unlikely it would go moldy like that without a top on it to trap in the moisture.

 

What if I use the Purple Power from walmart? maybe 1:1... It's stored in a metal shed, but the flooring of the shed is a mixture of rock and soft dirt. He doesn't put a cover on it. Also, would a green 3m scrub pad work?

 

Purple Power? Never tried it Michael. As long as its not corrosive. A 3M scrubbie will work, just be careful with new ones. A nylon bristle ( short stiff ones) will work as well. So will a AG Hi Tech Cleaning pad. He needs some air circulation in there as its never drying out or it'll just do it again. Soon.

 

Bleach would be a big no-no. You dont know what effects what would have on the materials. I would personally use Spray Nine. It is a all purpose cleaner and disinfectant and is available locally at homedepot for $12 gal. I would be much safer and the disinfectant would kill the mold and other bacteria.

The clorox/water mix works use a mild solution to test your seats etc.

 

go to westmarine.com and get mold remover/cleaner for vinyl boat seats.

 

you might wanna consider a product called mold killer...I think it's available at your local Home Depot.

 

You'll need a higher alkaline cleaner than Cockpit. einszett Blitz would be a good solution or if you need to go a lot stronger, einszett W99.

You can then finish off with Cockpit Premium.

 

Michael..these 2 sound like good suggestions. That AG interior pad would probably really help with whatever chemical you go with. The other obvious choice would be to steam it...that'll kill the organisms in the mold and prevent it from happening again.
