Hey everyone! First and foremost, I will introduce myself to these forums. My name is Tyler Hoffarth, living in Alberta, Canada. I am looking for assistance on various forums, and this one was highly recommended to me. I recently bought a 2004 BMW 330CI ZHP, in Imola Red. My girlfriend owns a 1997 BMW 318IS, in Hellrot Red. We are currently looking to build a good detailing kit that would work really well on red vehicles, respectively. I am looking for a complete system... orbital, wax, sealant, polisher(s), swirl removers, pads, towels, etc. Both of our cars have many swirl marks... the paint is quite 'swirly' on both of them everywhere. Sometimes as bad as, say, 1500grit. I was over on the AutoGeek forum, and this is the list that I had created: -- Griots 6" HD Polisher Kit: - WG Total Swirl Remover 3.0 - WG Finishing Glaze 3.0 - Various pads - Griot’s Garage Random Orbital Wolfgang Duo -- WG Deep Gloss Paint Sealant -- Menzerna FG400 -- Menzerna SF-4000 -- HydroTech Cyan/Orange Pads -- WF Polishing Pad Combo (for hand use) -- WG Fuzion Mini Estate Kit - WG Auto Bathe - WG Paint Polish Enhancer - WG Fuzion 3oz wax Wolfgang Fuzion Estate Wax Mini Connoisseur's Kit, Wolfgang Mini Wax Kit, Fuzion Wax Sample Kit I'm not sure this kit is complete, nor if it is a good setup for red cars. I am NOT experienced with using a orbital/polisher, so it will also be a learning experience. Is this a good list, or what would you use? I don't want to spend boatloads of money, but I do want to do a great job and have as amazing results as I can for a great deep, wet gloss look, free of swirl marks when I am done. Thanks everyone! Tyler
Welcome Tyler. I too am new (ish) here. I also did a lot of research and with the help of Ken @ http://www.autowerkesexclusivestore.ca/ in Vancouver I bought a Griots 6", Orange and green Buff and Shine pads (5.5" and 4" ) and just ---LOVE-- the Menzerna FG 400. Being a beginner my plan was to start on the trunk and if I messed it up it was a smaller area to get repaired. I started out slowly, took my time and actually surprised myself at the results I got..Now granted my car isn't red, but im sure those here with more experience and knowledge can help guide you along. For wax I use Autoglym HD, and Collinite 845. Good luck and have fun..Tim
Your going to need to decon in some way too since they are older cars so some detailing clay or a nanoskin mitt or pad for sure and maybe something like ironX. Along with some IPA or equivalent to clean up the polish. Why get wg stuff if your getting Menzerna anyway?? I think you would be better off with a sealant like sonax pns or a coating like opti coat since I'm guessing you may not want to reapply wax every 2 months or so. I'd also make sure you pick up some apc for those really nasty areas (exhaust tips door jambs etc..). If you want to be OCD like me you can't forget the wheels and tires either I'd pick up a ez detail or Daytona brush and a boars hair one for the face along with something like sonax FE. I spent about 1k and have polished both my cars sealed them and maintained them for at least 6 months now. It becomes an addiction though so be careful lol!! Enjoy.
Hey welcome to the forum! It's great to see another fellow Canadian on here! I would do mxwizard suggest and talk to Ken (911Fanatic) He has been extremely helpful and I'm Sure he could set you in the right direction!
Phil at detailers domain has always provided me with excellent references on products and machines. I thank him by buying my supplies from him. It works for me.
Hey Tyler. Give me a shout if you want to chat. I'm a big believer in keeping it simple and with the abilities of the newer pads and polishes, you really don't need a garage full of stuff.
