Bare Hand vs. Applicator

I'm interested in applying Swissvax Concorso by the Bare Hand Method; only ever applied other waxes with an applicator previously and this will be my initial experience with Concorso. Paint is in very good shape and I'll certainly clay, polish and apply the Swissvax cleaner beforehand. Plan to "sun" for at least 3 hours after initial application and then apply a second coat. I've "practiced" the Bare Hand technique on selected panels on my daily driver with Souveran and it seems to work nice and easy, a bit more "liquid" perhaps during the actual application but also seems to take a bit more wax versus the Applicator method.

Question is whether the Bare Hand method has any advantages over the Applicator application and will I use more product as I suspect. A little does indeed go a long way but it does seem to require more wax than using an Applicator.

Advantages of Bare Hand application? Is it actually "necessary"? Any comments, tips, greatly appreciated. :help:

I tried it once and I feel its a waste of wax. I don't see any advantage of applying it that way. I feel you get a much more thin and even coat by using an applicator. The positive is your hands smell better while repelling water.

Agree ... funny thing that you say this because after using 845 for the first time, my hands were beading water for an entire day. I tried every freakin' hand soap at home and nothing work.

On the other hand, how do yo exactry use an applicator to apply any SV wax? what i mean, to you warm it up by rubbing witth the applicator first or so? Sorry for dumb question, I always used my hands when applying SV.

Applying wax by hand is just fun! Try applying your leather conditioner the same way.

I tried applying by hand with Victoria's Red once, and I have to say it was great fun :D. Though now I'm sticking to an applicator because I don't want to be scratching my paint due to the calluses on my hands from going to the gym :(

I do the Leather application by hand; helps to keep the product on the leather and off of things non-leather.

Yes, the wax by Bare Hand is fun as a diversion but using more product in the process does not seem like a good return for me unless I'm missing something.

I don't warm the applicator at all when using SV. It doesn't need to.

It's just a marketing ploy, that seems to work. You won't notice a difference between applying it by hand or with a soft applicator.

The only wax you would ever have to do it with is RBOE, which is hard as a rock. But, you could also just heat up the applicator with a halogen, which is much easier and it goes on much thinner.

    So just to go over:
    1. It wastes wax
    2. It takes some effort to get it even
    3. It applies it pretty thick, which means harder to get off for some waxes

The only reason I would do it is if I liked to do it that way. Nica does it because I believe he said it was therapeutic for him and he didn't mind the wasted wax.

I would never ever apply 845 by hand, as I would never want my body absorbing all of its solvents and chemicals. I don't have many brain cells as it is. I'd prefer the few I have remaining not being killed off by Collinite.

The one wax I would like to try applying by hand is Victoria Concours Red, as it's expressly designed to be pretty safe for our bodies. But given all the waxes I already have, I'm having a hard time justifying the addition of one more tub ...

I tried the wax by hand method once with Zymol. While it was a unique experience, I used way more wax than by using an applicator.

No need to heat up anything to use SV.

I use a foam app with Concorso and all other wax products. I tried the bare hand method with Victoria Red on a very small section. It wasn't for me. It was way too messy. jmo

Hi everyone, I know for a fact that Victoria Wax doesn't have any marketing skills what so ever. Bare hand waxing is just a feel good thing to do. For most people it is hard to resist going back to the jar and grabbing more wax. Just try not doing that and let the wax spread and spread. A real good massage might be better words. It is really not a must do thing. But think of this, just one sharp piece of sand picked up and imbedded into a wax applicator can be pushed all over the surface without being detected and doing accumulative damage. With bare hand application that same piece of rock would be felt instantly and removed. Bare hand waxing is not for the speedy, it is just something to do while relaxing. After the best part of a day performing laborious 'thankless tasks' of washing, drying, claying, paint correction and preparation comes applying the LSP. Enjoy it while you can, it is usually the only immediate gratification you will get. One of our biggest sellers are the wax applicators, keep many on hand and check them often. Prolonged exposure to any car care product for people who have skin disorders, sensitivity and open sours is not recommended.:goodn:

akimel, that's what I would worry about (bare hand app) the sovents and chemicals in some of these products.

I wonder if the oils, solvents, or other ingredients in so called (recommended by hand) wax products are really safe to use by hand?

I know many products have an MSDS, but others don't, and since I don't know what's in some products (like Victoria red wax) I don't want to take a chance and have an allergic reaction by having my hands covered in an unknown solvent for a couple of hrs. Just my take.

You mean Paul Dalton? If so, I believe he changed over to using foam apps. I saw pics not long ago and he was using a foam app instead of bare hand.

Maybe he will chime in and share his thoughts?

I still don't want my hands in products for an extended period of time I know little to knowing about. Solvent wise.
