Well I'm seriously considering selling my 2004 FX35 and getting an 11 MKX. It has the options I want (heated wheel, cooled seats, killer stereo, DVD system for the kids) plus decent horsepower and 20" chrome wheels. The technology in the car is killer. Anybody driven one yet?
just did a youtube search and man . . . . . it's amazing how far technology has come even in the past couple of years. Car looks not bad. Not sure i did the grill but the features it has are pretty insane.
Very cool features wise, but absolutely hideous... of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder so if you like it I say go for it. Have you compared with the Caddy SRX and Buick Enclave?
hey, Richy, have you ever considered new Infiniti FX? It looks meaner then the previous model, lot of power. I also like new Audi Q5, it's not too small, and is very beautiful...I'm not a fan of big three, as their cars depeciate VERY QUICKLY, and after 5 years you will sell it for peanuts...
I actually drove a 2011 mkx around for a day this week while my car was in the shop for some warranty service. It is a very smooth ride and very comfortable on the highway, the car also had decent power but delivery through the automatic was a bit anemic. I thought the cornering ability was poor on a freeway ramp but lane changes and low speed cornering was reasonably snappy. The cabin was very nicely appointed for a ford, both rows of seats were comfortable i may have missed something but the rears did not fold completely flat when I tried real quick while waiting for gas. The Microsoft sync system got a good bit of attention from me since I'm a tech head, the features were really nice but I thought the system overall was a bit sluggish. Having the two independently controlled LCD displays in the dash made it a breeze to use while driving though. Also the voice commands were spot on accurate, better than any voice command system i have used in a car. I did not try the calendar and email features or Internet connected features since oi did not have a bt tethering enabled device with me. If you want more thoughts on a specific part of the mkx drop me a note.
another advice I'll give you Richy, try to test drive AT LEAST 3 different vehicles in a cagegory you are looking for to see what you like the most...there are a lot of surprises out there...I'm a VERY big german car fan, and want my next car to be german again...maybe VW or Audi, as I already have 2 BMWs...
Would it be ok to ask what your budget was or are you pretty set on the MKX? I'm digging the new 2011 BMW X5 Diesels. My inlaws just got one and it is real nice.
I do not like the grille on the MKT. I think the MKX's is much more palatable. I like the look of the new one more than the 2010. The features of it are what really draws me to it. The new SRX looks nice but when you option it up the way I want, it is too much for me. I don't like the Enclave. Sergei, I have looked at it, yes. I have owned this one for almost 7 years and to be brutally honest, i just want something different. I have never enjoyed a car more than I have the FX. I still get looks driving it around. They are relatively rare where I live. As far as the Audi goes, there is no dealer locally and I don't want to have to drive a long way if I have warranty issues with it. They are very pretty, no doubt. I usually keep my cars for between 5 and 7 years so the depreciation is not that big a difference at that stage down the road. Besides, the way I keep my cars I usually have no problem selling them as I'm sure you do as well. Your experience was EXACTLY what I was hoping for. I have only had a short ride in one so far. I had driven an MKS before. I was having difficulty deciding on whether I wanted another CUV or a car. I have also considered the Hyundai Genesis and love the new Equus but it's not coming to any dealer near me. I found the acceleration disappointing. For 305 HP teamed up to a 6 speed trans, i thought it would have more get up and go. I want the features the MKX has and I'm hoping it will have more pickup after being broken in. If the car had the Ecoboost engine in it, it would be absolutely perfect. God, I LOVE that engine. If I thought Ford would put it in next year, I would wait. It's funny Sergei..I grew up in the car business with a father who was a GM dealer so I'm very familiar with the car business in general although I have not worked in the industry since 1991. There are no GM vehicles that appeal to me right now. I owned a 1997 STS 2 cars ago. Before that I had a 7 series that cost me nothing but money. I really do not want to go down that road again...they're too finicky for me. Maybe they've changed? I have driven the MKS, MKT and the Hyundai Genesis. Those are the models that have appealed to me so far. Diesel is the way to go for an SUV, no question. It's all about torque. I'm just leary at owning another BMW.
I can vouch for the Infiniti EX37. It'll smoke a base Cayenne. Speaking of the Cayenne... $46k isn't bad.
I have driven the lincoln and the genesis for around a week a piece and roughly 6-800 miles. If I had to compare the 2 I would opt for the genesis. Could have been me but I thought it was more comfortable to ride around in. It felt quicker than the lincoln too. Plus I believe they have more interior room and trunk space but I have not checked to confirm.
VW is coming up with a new Touareg - Volkswagen Touareg Home and it is worth a test drive at least...there is day and night difference between german cars and korean cars, try to do sudden lane changes at highway speeds and you will know what I mean... Anyway, they fixed issues on this Touareg, you can see in a back window, suspension has been softened (previous was hard as a rock)...and it looks VERY nice...
I am still going to go drive the V-8 Genesis. It is lacking in a few things I want in my next car, namely cooled seats on both sides, heated wheel, DVD system for the kids. I drove the V-6 with the tech pkg last year and it was nice. The sound system is the best around. I brought a Telarc recording of the 1812 overture and when the cannons went off, I could feel the percussion in my chest..fricking awesome!! You know, I've never liked those. The Q5 is another matter. I will investigate it too. I've got till the end of the month to make the deal plus I can still order what I want and they will honour the current incentive. Plus I found out today that if I use a friend's employee #, I get another $1000 off the price. It's looking better all the time.
Bummer. I take it you have had problems with them in the past? The ride in the 2011 X5 Diesel is incredible. It's very smooth, very powerful and handles like a champ. Not to mention it's probably the quietest Diesel i have ever heard. I think my 09 Accord Coupe V6 makes more noise then the X5 Diesel. One thing there is to love though is the warranty that BMW offers as it covers everything down to windshield wipers down to your brake pads. The technology has improved greatly in this new X5. Backup camera, side mirror cameras and front bumper cameras so that you can see traffic in those hard areas by just slipping the nose of your vehicle out a tad bit. WIsh i could afford one LoL.
I see...well, once again, I'd test drive a few cars to see what you like the most...it looks like you are looking into SUV category...I'd consider BMW X5, Audi Q5/Q7 both petrol and diesel, VW Touareg, Mercedes ML/GL, Porsche Cayenne, Infiniti FX, Acura MDX, Lincoln MKX. And even if you pick Lincoln MKX, you will know that you made a wise choice by checking out others to see what you like the most...Test everything from handling (sudden lane changes at high speeds, this is where toyota will fail for sure), to acceleration, and brakes, as you defenetely want great stopping power...this is shy I absolutely adore my X5... I honestly failed to do that when I got my X5...wife wanted X5 badly, and I simply didn't go to test drive Audi Q7 (I know I should have), or Mercedes ML/GL...I wanted a german car, others were simply out of question...I didn't like older touareg... And if you think japanese cars are dependable, the case with my 2005 Acura RL was not...I've taken it to the dealer for different repairs such as AC unit went out, side mirrors were loose and required replacement, side mirrors controls went out, rattle noise from rear panels, some kind of mechanical leveling that controls HID turning lights which was located in rear bumber was broken, and a few other things with it as well...it waas under warranty so those repairs were done at no charge...my wife's BMW was taken to a dealer for repairs only once or twice... Good luck!
