2002 Acura NSX Restorative Correction Detail

Recently completed in the shop, the owner of this vehicle sought me out after viewing a thread on NSX Prime where he saw me restore a NSX in terrible condition to "As new". Rare Long Beach Blue the finish,interior and especially the wheel wells needed restorative work to bring the vehicle back cosmetically.

The vehicle has some nice mods such as KW coilovers (V3) and the forged stock wheels painted anthracite grey along with a Comptech supercharger, the end result was quite a turnaround.

Here is the beginning prrepping the vehicle for clearfilm @ Elite Films down the street.

First the clay step.





Then removing the old clearfilm.





The paint under the film WAS NOT corrected before the film was installed.





50/50 of the finish.





The finish is now ready for clearfilm installation.





On to the heavy correction this car required............rear wing as bad as you want.





"Proof of life"..................








Opposite angle of the rear wing.





Rear tailight fixture was marred badly as well, 50/50 of this area.





Just a little built up dirt & patina.





Trim finish was in awful condition.





During compounding step with Megs D300 and cutting disc 4".





Now for the true horror of this correction...................just like a 993 C4S I did last year, oily slurry seal embedded in the wheels wells. That Porsche took 15 hours to correct that issue.......this Acura required at least 20 hours.








Same wheel well, I achevied 90% correction, 100% would have put the cost of the correction out of reach. Brought in Tony Ito to help with this task and the interior.





During clean up of the front drivers wheel well.





Also deserving mention is Ken Black who came down from Sacramento to help with the vehicle as well!! ....Thanks Ken.


Wheels polished and sealed, then re-mounted and torqued to spec(80ft/lbs).





Space saver spare was taken out, and the front area tightned up.

Really nice work Bob as always. I thinks that's the first NSX i've seen in blue. I take it that all the work performed on the underside of the hood was done by hand?

Great work as always! That's a beautiful color. What do you mean by "mingfree"? We have a local auto detailing company called Ming Shine in my area and they offer a "ming shine" which they say lasts a lifetime.

what is that slurry (material composition wise) in the wheel well and where does it come from? it must have been really difficult to remove considering it took 20 hours for all 4! 5 hours each,now that's commitment right there!...:worship2:

 

Im going to guess it's undercoating?

 

A"Mingfree detail" is any job without the Ming's influence...............ie: NON-GLOSS-IT or Gloss-it free in anyway, shape or form. Ming is Rich Light aka "Man who speak with forked tongue" (In my humble opinion of course) wikepedia should have this definition..........or "Detailing wiki" I mean, would save lot's of time.

Love the color of that NSX. Great job on the restoration.

 

Beautiful work as always. I really love those cars and that is a great color. The NSX has been slagged by some for not being a big displacement monster and "too bland" but the engineering is impeccable. As a real world driver as opposed to a track car it is very tough to beat. Given a choice between something like a 2002 Viper or a 2002 NSX I'd take the NSX in a heartbeat.

Awesome color and car to work on Bob! That car isn't too hard to work on for mods wise. Was the paint soft?
The NSX needs a 4.0l V8 Twin Turbo setup with 500hp. :shrug:
