Well I'm like everyone else, trying to get their car primed up for winter. I was wondering if it's possible to layer meguiars #26 (thanks P1et :headbang then slap on some collinite 476s. If it is possible, whats the wait time for megs #26, I don't have much time... Thanks!
I do not know which course is best, but if I were prepping my car for winter, which in fact I just did last week, I would not apply M26 and then top it with Collinite 476s. I would be concerned that the durability of the Collinite would be compromised and diminished, though I have no actual data or experience to support this concern. Instead, I would choose to go with two layers of Collinite. Go for the durability and wait for spring to dress your car in M26. Besides, from what I have read 476s creates a mighty fine look. I know I'm happy with the two coats of Collinite 845 I just applied to my S2000. --Al
why don't you instead layer 476S, like at least 2 coats. #26 is nice, but not that durable, leave it off 'till spring.
How long do I wait between the two coats of collinite? I think the directions state to wipe the wax right off after it hazes
Alright thanks for the info guys. One more thing. I'm doing this outside (no garage :shrug, should I spray some QD (last touch) while I buff the wax off? Thanks
Collinite, althought an excellent wax, should be applied pretty thin. I personally layer it over Duragloss 105, which makes it easy to apply. However, you should be OK with not using Last Touch to remove it if you go nice and thin. I always prime my foam applicator with warm water, so it's damp. Works a charm!
I always prime my foam applicator with warm water, so it's damp. Works like a charm! Isn't that cheating. I think that is cheating. You cheat:shakehead:
Well I had my taste of collinite on sunday.... man that stuff is HARD to take off, good arm workout. I only applied one layer too :bla2: oh yea didn't use last touch either.
I was just trying to get you going. looks like I did (sir) Hope you didn't take that serious. Just feeling silly at the moment:shrug:
I second that...As a matter of fact, I just applied a coat of 476 on my car yeasterday & it was a PITA to buff off. I think it was due to the fact that it was on the one hand cold outside & on the other hand, I may have applied it a bit too thick, but with a little bit of elbow grease, I did manage to fuff it off quite nicely. So, applying it thin is the key.
I tried thin, couldnt really see it since I was doing it outside. The main spots were the places where the applicator touched right after i swiped some wax on it. But yea, it was a PITA to take off, good 30-45mins buffing it off. Anyone know what the portable/foldable car port tent thingy is called?
What was the temperature? According to the Collinite webste, "The ideal temperature range for using Collinite products is between 60 and 85 degrees. Using the product when the temperature is less than 60 degrees could result in streaking or difficulty in removing the product from the finish" (Collinite Hints).
Same thing with the 476, when its below a certain temp, its a bear to work with to get off. Tempted to wipe on and wipe off a little quicker.
