This car was fun to detail. I didn't think the car was in that bad condition. The owner wanted to remove scratches and put some protection on the vehicle. Some of the RIDS were removed by wet sanding Here are some before pictures: Using the 3m sun gun to show the sanding marks First I started by spraying down the wheels with P21s wheel gel and letting it sit and dwell. I then hit up the engine bay. I sprayed the bay down carefully avoiding electronics under the hood. I used Meguire's APC diluted 5:1 and degreaser. I then scrubbed with a soft brush and used the swissvax wheel brush forharder to reach areas. 303 areospace was used to coat the hoses and black wow for the plastics. Before: During: After: I then washed the car by using the two bucket system. I filled up my bucket with a strong solution of Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss and then put a good solution of DP suds and CG CWG into the foam gun. I completed a rinse and then foamed the car and let dwell. Next, I rinsed the car off, foamed again and washed with a shmitt. After, washing, I clayed with Meguire's blue clay and washed again. Next, I used a finger glove to agitate the wheels and cleaned them with the EZ detail brush and Swissvax Brush. The wheels were clay to remove any other contaminants. After cleaning, I dried the car with PakShak Waffle Weaves and taped the car's trim with 3m automotive tape. I decided to use the makita 9227 partnered with a 3m back plate, LC 5.5 orange pad and SIP. In some areas I used a yellow pad and Power gloss. Here are some pics showing the removal of the sanding marks. I used the sun gun to point out the defect. I used the zenith approach, but didn't go over 1500 rpm. Before After The decided final polish was final polish. I like it because it leaves a very nice gloss. I polished the paint work and also the head and tail lamps, by switching to a smaller bp and using 4" orange pads with SIP. After polishing, I used Zymol screen and lens. I think it leaves a very nice finish. After polishing the paint, I decided to polish the glass with 1Z glass polish. I applied the polish on to a white pad and used the udm on setting 4 to polish. I then wiped off with a mf and applied rain x. I let rain x haze and I buffed it off. Door jams and residue was cleaned with adam's quick detailer. I really like this QD. I then applied a coat of Swissvax cleaner fluid to leave the paint work nice and clean. It leaves a very nice shine. For protection, I layered Jetseal 109 twice. While waiting between coats of jet seal, I decided to put the finishing touches on the wheels. I used swissvax cleaner fluid and autobahn. It left the wheels looking great. I used Swissvax pneu on the tires. I like the look pneu leaves. Sorry about the bad lighting. Black wow was then applied to the trim of the outside of the car. After application, I buffed off the excess. After letting jet seal cure, it was time for the LSP. The choice was Swissvax Mystery. It left the paint looking great. I was really impressed. I'll post these pics later on in the post. The interior was not too bad. I cleaned the windows with invisiglass and a glass mf and cleaned the plastics with APC. I then treated the interior plastics with 303 aerospace. The wood trim was cleaned coated with cleaner fluid and protected with swissvax wood polish. The leather was cleaned with swissvax leather cleaner, treated with leather milk and left alone for 30 min. After 30 min, I treated the most worn parts (mostly bolsters) with leather glaze. Some after shots of the interior: Now for the outside shots (mystery x 3). These pics were late in the day and car was taken out the next day for some sun pics: Sanding marks removed showing off flake At this point, I thought the detail turned out well. I really liked Mystery leaves a nice wet and adds somewhat of a 3d look hard to explain. Thanks for looking!
What a job, amazing! The paint looks really wet, just like I find Mystery to do. Its a great wax for sure. Loved the pictures and the write-up.
nice work Lance ! just a quick qn, the 1z glass polish you used, is it more of a chemical cleaner polish or abrasive polish to remove swirls/scratches on the windscreen ?
good question. Its liquid i know that and thats about it. sounds like a chemical to me. 1Z Einszett Glass Polish works by deep cleaning windshields and windows. Dirty glass can shorten the life span of your windshield wipers and reduce your visibility. Oily films and grease mix with rain water to distort and cloud your view of the road ahead. 1Z Einszett Glass Polish removes these films and embedded contamination to give you the clearest view possible. 1Z Einszett Glass Polish is a gentle polish formulated specifically for glass. It works by pulling dirt, wax, oils, and environmental pollution out of the microscopic valleys of the glass, thereby smoothing out the tiny bumps you may see on your windshield. The glass polish works without streaking or distorting the glass, and it does not create a glare. Your vehicle’s windows will look like new! You can even use 1Z Einszett Glass Polish on mirrors! The polish is that gentle. Because mirrors reflect, you see a double image of any imperfections on the mirror. 1Z Einszett Glass Polish eliminates imperfections caused by contamination without scratching or streaking. Your rearview mirrors, and even the mirrors inside your home, will look better than they have in years. 1Z Einszett Glass Polish can be applied by hand or machine. If applying by machine, we recommend using a dual action polisher or a drill. For drill application, the Spot Buffs Kit gives you an assortment of 4 inch pads and a small backing plate that can be used again and again for spot polishing. For polisher application, we recommend the Lake Country Glass Polishing Pad. The foam pad is specially designed to enhance the performance of any glass polish. Use a 5 inch backing plate. Restore the clarity of your windshield and windows by deep cleaning them with 1Z Einszett Glass Polish. Not only will your vehicle look better, you will see better.
Really impressed w/the attention to detail. Nice tape job, that must have taken some x-tra time along w/claying the wheels. I was amazed at the amount of RIDS and wet sanding that had to be done.I have done some wet sanding but I have not gotten to that point yet. I'm still concentrating on the majors right now. You did a super job. It must be nice to use all high end products. you can tell the difference in the out come. Just beautiful... Really enjoyed the write up as well. It's always fun to read them and then walk away with important tid bits of imformation. Thank you...:worship2:
Lookin' good. I also like that fact that you polished all of the lighting, I think it makes a nice difference and adds little to no extra time to the detail. Not a very exciting color, though (Dolphin Gray I think Audi calls it?). What do you think of the SV Wood Polish? Is it more of an LSP type product, or will it remove fine marring? P.S. sorry to hear about your car getting broken into, theives are the scum of the earth.
