Hello Photo Gurus, I am borrowing a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (350D) and there is something inside the camera that is making a mark on the pictures. It isn't on the lens because it appears with 2 different lens' and both lens' are clean (atleast to the naked eye). With the NASCAR series in town this weekend, I am borrowing the camera again and was wondering if anyone knew the culprit to this issue, and any fixes. I don't have any experience with DSLRs so I don't know what I should clean or shouldn't clean inside the camera itself .... Anyways, here are a few pictures of the makings and I would appreciate any feedback. It could be something (dust) on the sensor itself. It can be cleaned, but it is a delicate operation. There are a few ways to do it. For starters I would try putting the camera into a sensor cleaning mode (this locks the mirror in the up position, exposing the sensor). Then I would use something like a rocket blower to try to blow the dust off of the sensor. You could also have the sensor professionally cleaned at a GOOD shop, but make sure they have a good reputation.

A good shop should be able to fix. Try the self clean feature first. And be careful next time when the lens is off!
Another vote for sensor dust. I clean mine myself without any problems. I just use the little blower. If it's really stuck on you might have to use a brush or foam tip cleaner. I don't like touching the sensor if I don't have to. The first time I went to a local pro camera store and they cleaned it for me for free. If you have a local camera store they will have tools for cleaning it too.
Thanks guys. I just watched a few videos on Youtube and I didn't realize how common dust on the sensor is. It looks like I'll be buying a Giotto's Rocket-Air. Shiny, I am borrowing the camera from someone else but I'll be sure to be careful when I use it.
Sure enough there was a small piece of lint or dust on the sensor. Instead of ordering a Rocket Air I decided to try and Ear Syringe / Nasal Aspirator first to see how that worked ... and it worked fine. On Youtube someone said to take a pic of a piece of paper w/ an f/22 to check the results: I think I could get addicted to these DSLRs pretty fast, there's no comparison to my HP point and shoot digi-camera. Looks good! It's an addicting hobby. It's also a very expensive hobby, at least for me. I see a Canon 50d under my Christmas tree this year. lol
