Hi my name is Ryan and im new to this forum. I'm from San Diego California and was wondering what are some good things to buy first. I'm thinking about starting a mobile detailing business. what are some of the necessities??
practice....biggest thing you will need. There are many great products out there, most of which you just need to know how to use. For example, megs makes some good polishes, i however am used to menzerna so i am more conertable with them, and therefore use them more often. Megs products are good just not much cup o tea. So what im trying to say is find a brand use it alot and get the hang of it. Also dont start doing more then you can handle, if you cannot polish to a point that is worth what you are charging then dont. Perhas start with simple wash and waxes and build from there. And practice some more. Im not trying to be hard or a jerk, but to behonest lots of poepl get into the busiess or a quick buck without relizing what it really takes to be one o the best. So welcome to DB, you have come to the right place to learn., and with that my biggest advice would be to get a much paractice on yours and amily cars before you start charging strangers
thanks guys...what exactly does a foam gun do? i mean i know it gives you foam but whats the advantage to that over just a bucket of foam?
A foam gun/cannon is a pre wash tool that softens and loosens the dirt on the exterior of the vehicle, and often removes a lot of the surface contamination without having to touch the vehicle. They should be used strictly as pre-wash tools, and two bucket method should be used after. It's basically an extra precaution to minimize swirls.
I have found the foam gun/pressure washer process great for reducing the amount of abrasion on the car during a wash. Keep in mind that you'll go through a lot of soap when using a foam gun. Good luck with your business!
I don't really agree with this. I use a foam cannon and never use the two bucket method anymore. I use a rinse bucket with a grit guard and foam up the section of car I will be washing. Using a foam cannon with a rinse bucket can accomplish the same thing as a two bucket method.
welcome and gl. let me know if you need any supplies. I would say some necessities would be car wash/microfiber/clay bar/polish/wax a vac/a couple buckets/grit guards/sponge/ A pc/flex or rotary pads/backing plate/ business cards/a website or something on craigslist/ just a few of the obvious things
This is just my 2 cents, but I believe the purpose of the foam cannon is to be used as a pre-rinse system. The point of which is to remove as much dirt beforehand and thus minimize the chances of marring the finish when you do wash it with a mitt.(which should still be done with the two bucket method)
Foam cannon, let dwell for a few minutes and rinse. This will remove most of the dirt. Then wash with two bucket method. :thumb:
