hey guys, I'm going away for a week tomorrow and when I'm back I plan on cleaning up the garage. It's in pretty rough shape. I need some suggestions on what to do. There are cobwebs everywhere, holes in the walls, stained walls, etc etc. I was thinking of renting a powerful power washer and taking everything out and power washing it than painting it. But for the cobwebs, whats the best way to get rid of them? I'm looking forward to having a cobweb free garage. We're also buying some storage shelving so that would help with some of the mess. I was also thinking of using a vacuum for the cobwebs, but ours doesn't have a long enough hose. Suggestions are always welcomed. Sorry no pics yet. Thanks, Brendan
Not sure if you should powerwash the walls though! But for the concrete, that will be fine. Perhaps you can coat the garage floors? And I would invest in a good shop vac, they are cheap and my favorite tool!
haha, alright I wasn't planning on power washing the walls, just the ground. But I guess I'll move everything and just use a broom.
What did you end up doing? An industrial grade epoxy on the floors will make cleanup easier in the future.
update for those of you who care. Sorry haven't been able to post about this yet. I spent about 4 days on this with one day in between (we went down to the US for shopping). We ended up painting the whole garage. My dad and I were going to epoxy the floors, but we didn't have enough time so we're planning on doing it next summer. I don't have pics but I can get them up for tomorrow. We also bought a cabinet from Home Depot for $150. I believe it's $139 in the US. But these are actually pretty sturdy and really easy to build. They hold a lot. Not that I have a big collection going on but when I do pics will be up. This is the cabinet: Workforce Bi-Fold Resin Utility Cabinet (46.5"W X21"D X71"H) - 17183633 at The Home Depot I'll get pics of the garage tomorrow to show you what we did. We pretty much just got rid of the cobwebs, sealed up some holes in the wall, caught two mice living in our garage (humanely) and glued some strips of wood to prevent them from digging another hole in case they come back. The garage looked like total sh*t before, like you wouldn't believe. Now it's awesome. There were holes in the wall, spiders every where, mice, unpainted walls, broken light fixtures, stuff that we never got around to throwing out. Now it's all nice and clean and ready to be detailed in. We used outdoor paint so it's safe for me to wash inside the garage during the winter. Anyways, I'll get pics up tomorrow and post them. sweet i finally got it to work. I was ready to throw my camera out the window... Anyways here are the pics. Theres normally 2 more cars in the garage but they were both in the front so i thought i'd take pics. Re-organized this shelf (took everything off and wiped it down) All of this was moved into the middle while I was painting. Took everything off the shelves and put them back on. :gidiup:Got an idea, made it happen. Under $9 to get galvanized wire, drywall studs, and the hooks. I have plenty of extras so if it doesn't work I can always try it again. New shelf with the MASSIVE collection of detailing stuff I have joking btw Close up I guess... Let me know what you guys think. You guys actually wouldn't imagine how bad that garage was before. But all the holes are patched up, spiders stomped on, cobwebs gone, walls painted. Well worth it, i guess because I didn't pay for supplies. We used outdoor paint so it was about twice as much as indoor paint. LMK! Brendan
Nice job on the cleanup. I have done it before and it takes a tremendous amount of effort. Funny how things accumulate over the years!
Wow you sure have a lot of stuff in your garage...I need to be carefull with all my detailing stuff...I've got way too much and actually need shelves. Any who garage looks good..looks like a big garage too :thumb:
hard to tell, but its a 3 car garage. It's not that big for a 3 car but it works. Actually, it's pretty short. I don't know how short but it isn't deep at all
