Second lens...and it begins!!

Well I had the day off work today and I had two hours to kill and guess where I went? Well I went to the camera store to look at the lens I've been waiting to get my hands on and well here is lens numero 2 :gidiup: :gidiup:

I slaped it on to my Rebel and took these:

Small but it's coming.

Oh I was able to play around with the exact same lens but in the f/2.8 range and I liked the f/4 better, I wanted the IS and the weight was significant too...well that's just me.

IS is wicked, first lens I own with IS. I'm quite pumped with my new purchase :thumb:

I've been reading about this lens for quite a bit and I've compard it to afew other lenses and this lens is by far one of the best one's, I can't wait to put it to good use :woo: :woo:

Well so far I've got the 10-20mm, this lens is quite nice. Its really wide, what it does is that it will capture a large area even though your only feets away..now if your far a way and you want to zoom in this lens is not meant for that. This 10-20mm is meant for tight areas, like in my garage for example.

This new one that I purchased is quite the lens, it has great zoom and the quality is great, I took some pictures wile at the store, you know testing it out (as best as I could that is) and boy the Image Stablizer (IS) makes a big difference. First lens I have with IS and it's quite nice....any who, what this lens is good for is that it has a nice range from 24-105mmmm...meaning that it will zoom in quite nice but it compliments my wide angle lens 10-20mm becuase the new lens starts at 24mm....oooh another nice thing and tod pointed this out is that it does agreat job at giving you that nice blury background (Depth of Field) and I very much enjoy bluring the back ground :gidiup:

Now this is the advice i was given when I first started looking at some lens, ask your self what do I want this lens for. Me, I want these lens for detailing and that's why I've upgraded from my kit lens to these two lenses, together I should be able to capture/document all the details with some good quality images.

I still have lots to learn but slowly I'm getting the hang of the Rebel and the new lenses and all the photography mombo, jumbo lingo/technique...but slowly is the key word lol.

Hope this helps...oh and I'm not expert, I just read and read and when I feel I'm ready I go a head and purchase...but that's just me.

 

Ah that makes sense, Im quite happy w the stock lens that I got w my Canon.

Im sure Im living in ignorance, Im afraid if I try these new lenses the buying will never end

L lenses are more valuable than the body. You can keep upgrading the body and keep the L lenses. Can't wait to see the pics of your next detail.

 

Congrats buddy.... now that is a quality lens.. cant wait to see that in action... wow.. its amazing how fast you picked up.. i ve had my camera for almost a year now and still using stock lens... dont worry time will come for me and ill soon have my wide angle and tele... SWEET

The 24-105 f4L is an awesome lens. It has quickly become my standard walkaround lens. Its a great focal length range for just about everything.

The L lens image and build quality is addictive. You will love it.

What body are you shooting again? Do you have a battery grip? It makes the balance of the camera with the heavy L lenses feel much more natural.

If your plan is to use it mostly for detailing photos, do you have a decent tripod and a remote shutter release? I find these help a great deal.

 

I agree. At first, I was hesitant because of the weight, but I read that it helps stabalize the camera (I have very shaky hands). I can't shoot without it now.

I guess we all know what Nica is getting next...:applause2:

Yea, lenses are not cheap at all but they sure do make an incredable difference. I was happy with my stock lens too for quite a wile but after doing some reading and going down to the store and trying different lenses and at different price range I could see the quality difference, even down to the noise the lenses make...who know lenses were a work of art :thud: but not cheap that's for sure, but like anything in life, you get what you pay for :shrug:

Thank you, but to be honest the only reason I purhcased this second lens is because with my 10-20mm I felt restricted on the zoom and I don't like to be restricted. Don't get me wrong the 10-20mm is a great lens but I found my self moving the tripod forward a few times and I didn't like that...not becuase I don't like moving the tripod, no not that but because of the heat of the 1,000W lights that's all. I've also been doing a ton of reading about the different kinds of lenses out there and I felt it was time for me to upgrade :applause2: It's like detailing, once you learn enough and you hit your peak you want to raise the bar and just keep going up and up :thumb:

Thank you brianja, yes I can totally understand why so many choose this lens to be there standard lens, such craftmanship and quality is suporb oh and it's so true the quality is very addicting :nod:

For boddy I'm currently using the XTi Rebel, I'm actually quite pleased with it, great camera to get my feet wet...ooh but I know which camera I will be upgrading in about a year or so :druling: I saw it at the store, looks good.

As for tripod, yes sir that was the first thing I did. I actually went through two cheap ones before I purhcased this bad boy:

This tripod is very stirdy and with the new lenses and the weight it makes it even look and feel much more sturdy.

As for the battery grip, I was going to purchase it with my lens but they didn't have any left sales man said they would have one in on Wedndesday or Thursday this week, so next time I'm there I'll pick one up. I too have been reading that it not only helps the grip of the camera but also how a person hold the camera and I need it beucase I'm having problems keeping the camera still.

I haven't even thought about the remote shutter speed though, not yet. I need a flash before I get the remote shutter speed...ooh and I know the flash to go with too :cheerl:

Yup, you know it :cheerl: :cheerl: a co-worker let me man handle his Nikkon and it has the battery grip and boy it not only makes it look more aggresive but the feel for it is wicked, so yes I'll be purhcasing that next :woo: :woo: that and a flash hopefully...but I really need to learn how to use a flash properly before I purchase it, that's why I haven't purhased a flash.

Yes, and I can totally understand why it got such high ratings. Wicked lens and I've only used it a few times now but it's so great to use it, I'm very impressed with it...oooh I can't wait till Friday :cheerl: :cheerl:

 

So, what was the price? darn it!!
