We are fortunate enough to have a great sized building. Problem is, sometimes bigger is not better! The problem we have is lighting in our detail bay. We have 14 foot high ceilings and 40 foot wide rooms, LOL. I want to build an enclosed area inside the shop just for detailing. The plan is to have just enough room to comfortably detail vehicles including pick up trucks without having to go too big where lighting becomes a problem again. We plan on housing all the chemicals right outside this bay through a man door so don't really need extra room to house products. Does anybody have pictures of their detail bay? Sizes? Lighting? It is getting frustrating pulling a car outside and having to bring it back in due to lighting!
In two of my past shops, the detailing bay was 16' wide by 30' long. I think this is perfect for doing one car at a time. I had 6 - 8' T8s hanging from the ceiling at 12' from the floor.
you don't need to hang the lights at the ceiling height...drop them down lower to the ground. best way to figure this out is to get the largest vehicle you want to accommodate and park it in a spot. then build and structure your detail bay around it. at least this way, you are not committed and can move things around before setting up some walls and hanging lighting.
