Well, I finally have all the products ready to go. I feel like I'm going to war against mitsu... cause they used such a stupid soft paint that sneezing on it is known to induce marring. So. This is the intro to the first of a many day full detail paint correction. Hope you guys like what you see and educate me on things you don't. Will be usings pretty much the entire Prima line up. 303 interior, Adams VRT for the trim and tires, Sonax on the wheels, Autoscrub Fine. Hope you enjoy
I'm using griots on 3.5 speed with über yellow pad. Prima cut. It's like the product is drying to fast? I'm applying on the pad as instructed and witnessed in countless videos and books. I blot the panel, then smear/spread. And my pad ends up looking like this... View attachment 5873 Why is this drying so fast to the point when I'm polishing I have DUST flying everywhere, not wet product like you would expect..
how long are you working the product? looks like you may be working it too long. Ive never used really any other polishes then Menz.... maybe try misting the pad with some distilled water or a bit of detail spray to extend the working time
How bad are the defects in your paint? Most times you can get away with using only Swirl by changing up the pads. For instance you could go over the whole car with Swirl on orange then change to Swirl on green. Cut on the yellow pad is pretty aggressive. If your defects aren't too bad you could get the results you want with just Swirl. Also you need to be using a higher speed and a bit more polish. And try prepping your pad with a detail spray. A little spray of Glide might help.
Oooooh detail spray. I saw an Adams video of them doing that, but half the time the mist missed the pad so I thought it was just a gimmick. I'll try that now.
View attachment 5874 This is what prima cut is getting me. I'm not going heavy pressure either. There are a few deep "scars" as I like to call them. That's why I'm using cut. I know that Swirl would probably do what I need, but I want to round out the V cuts of the "scars" to make them not so noticeable. Make it easier for the glaze do its job the best it can after I go over with swirl and finish. This mostly theory I've put together based on what I've read. Tell me if I'm on the right track or if I've fallen off my rocker...
Also. Paint is coming out super nice. I want to use the words "clear" and "clean". I am newb though, and I'm getting dust. Being that the car has been stripped, Clayed, and now cut, would it be safe to do a quick wash with Prima Hydro? (Contains no waxes/polymers but won't strip anything) or do I just get over it until all polishing is done...
You could either do a quick wash or wipe each panel with onr or and ipa mixture. If you have carpro eraser or menzerna top inspection that's would be best, I use eraser to remove any oils from previous stages. Once all correction is done I do a quick wash and wipe with eraser and begin LSP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So hold off on the wash till I'm done polishing? I've only done cut, still need to do swirl and finish. Is the dust going to hurt if if some gets mixed into the other stages of polishing? If not then all is fine.
should not be a problem. do a quick wipe if you feel it is bothering you. polishing is a dirty aggressive step and working clean never is wrong. i would just be careful if you choose rubbing alcohol. i prefer others like the eraser or my favorite top inspection but they are very pricey. try just using a waterless wash diluted with some water. just keep working till you get to the end product and final items. your are doing fine and everyone seems to be helping.
I guess I started without having all the necessary items first. I don't have any onr or alcohol. Ill just continue to do panel by panel wipe offs. Btw I can't thank you enough for all you've done for me. My mind is still blown. I won't go into detail but if you ever need my soul er anything hahaha
Another question. This keeps happening to me too. Product is getting evenly applied and worked, but when I cut the power all the sudden all this extra product comes out. Is that normal or am I doing something else wrong too View attachment 5877 You can see in the middle is where I turned off and coasted like I'm supposed to
Thanks so much for all y'alls help. Heres a quick before and after of my bumper. 1st is stripped and clayed. 2nd is Cut, Swirl, Finish
Nice improvement! Now go get some Dr. Color Chip to fill in those spots, and you'll be better than new!
Thanks! I'm still newb at this. This was my first attempt ever on something of this scale. Its 12:40am. I have done Cut, Swirl, Finish, Amigo, and Banana Wax x1. How many total coats of wax should I lay down before I pull her out of the garage? I know the more coats of wax the better but lets be real. No one lays down 10 coats of wax before they go to the gas station. Side note. Paint looked incredible (to my standards) after the Amigo. but when I waxed... Idk the car started to look like a brand new in the box Hot Wheel car. Not sure how else to explain it. It just looked... super fresh... still in the package Hot Wheels. Like the car isnt a real car, just a toy. anyone else pickin up what I'm dropping?:shead:
Much beyond two coats of wax won't make much of a difference, just do one or two coats of your favorite wax/sealant or favorite combo and you should be golden. I think I know how you feel. Having not corrected anything but half a junk hood I can't say I've personally felt that but I can understand that sentiment completely
On the wax thing I wasn't saying in reference to how pretty it looks, but for protection. Banana Gloss claims 45-60 days protection. I'm gonna halve that and bet on a 3 to 4 week protection. So one coat is really enough?
