My dad was out of town for about a week so I took advantage of the opportunity to take his car and detail it. This is a 2007 BMW Z4 M Coupe, in North America there are only 182 Coupes in this color (I acquired the production sheet - let me know if you are interested in it and I can send it over). Unlike some of my write-ups, I didn't take too many photos. As it arrived: Pre-soaking with the Gilmour Gun. I used Chemical Guys HoneyDew and 1Z Blitz (also used in the 2BM system). Not pictured is decontamination with Uber fine grade clay. I knew the car was in rough shape, despite my dad owning it since new. Upon closer inspection it was evident that the car was riddled in RIDS, I assume this was from the first couple years of the car's life (when the clear coat is softer, and when the dealership took it through their mostly automated wash for service intervals). However, it was strange to see a lack of other surface imperfections. Despite using a Surbuf and Menzerna Power Gloss for compounding, I couldn't remove some of the deeper RIDS. I assume wet sanding would be needed. Finishing was done with a Meguiar's MF Finishing disc. Before: After: Before: After: A couple scratches I was able to polish out: Before: After: Cleaned up the dust by doing another wash (this time using Lusso Auto Bathe); blot dryed up with an Uber Super Drying towel and removed the residual water with a MetroVac Air Force Blaster. Sealed the wheels on Saturday with Menzerna Power Lock. Tire shine is Gloss-It Signature Tire Gloss. Polished exhaust tips were cleaned and brightened up with P21S Polishing Soap The body was protected with Chemical Guys Celeste Dettaglio. Finished up and it was dusk, so I only took a couple photos: All in all, I'm not sure how many hours were involved; this was spread out with work on Sat, Tues, Wed, and Thursday. I would estimate upwards of 18hrs. Feedback is appreciated. -Chase Products used: Cleaning 1Z Blitz APC Uber Blue Clay Bar P21S Polishing Soap Lusso Glass Polish Interior 1Z Cockpit Premium LSP Menzerna Power Lock Chemical Guys Celeste Dettaglio Pads Meguiar's DA MF Finishing Disc 5.5" Meguiar’s DA MF Finishing Disc 3” Meguiar’s DA MF Cutting Disc 3” Surbuf MicroFingers 5.5" Polishes Menzerna Power Gloss Compound Menzerna Final Polish 85RD Menzerna Top Inspection Tools Gilmour Foamaster II Grit Guard Griot's Garage 6 inch Random Orbital MetroVac Air Force Blaster Rapid Reel Wheeled Cart Garden Hose Reel Towels Uber Super Drying Microfiber Towel Chemical Guys Fluffer Miracle Supra MF Towel - Red Wash Chemical Guys HoneyDew Lusso Auto Bath Car Wash Wheels and Tires Gloss It Signature Tire Gloss
I know. I'm waiting for it to run out; then upgrading to Swissvax. I do admit, it's a good product (but from what I hear, it's about the only good product he has).
Looking great man. I did a black 2006 a few weeks ago and had to level so many touch up paint spots on that car it was ridiculous. Also, did you notice how DEEP the impressions are on the bottom of front quarter panel and the door? I had to get out my 3.5" pads to fit in that groove.
great job chase! following Phil's style write up with all the links...hehe...:applause2: looks good, he'll be in for a surprise when back in town.
Thanks John :thumb: Thanks Alex, he still hasn't had a chance to admire it. Regarding the links - yes - I am following in Phil's footsteps. Plus I like to give credit where credit is due and put the info out there of where to buy. My detailing collection thread is even more ridiculous. Last week I went crazy and added a link to almost every product. Check it out here.
