Hey there DB Little write-up here on a brand new (3k on the odo) 2012 BMW 650i with the M package So, here we go. The car has only a slim 3K on the odo and is loaded out to the teeth, around 4 weeks into ownership the owner was rear-ended by a driver in the city and the bumper has been replaced......the rear bumper done by the dealerships body shop here in NJ was THE least damaged and defect-free area of the car......thats a shocking first in all my experience. The dealership was also kind enough (typical BMW prep) to install a ton of DISO- the dealership installed swirl option via burning wax into the clear coat. We originally went with a simple one-step light correction (polishing) package with the main focus of simply protecting both the exterior and interior, however after putting the car under the lights and seeing the damage it became a panel-by panel custom correction job. Some panels received a two- step- medium polish to finishing and others such as the trunk lid and the hood received a 4-step- two compounding passes, medium then a finishing. Total time- 18 hours: 3 on the interior- 15 correcting the paint. I had the car for a span of two days which gave me a ton of time to concentrate on bringing this 6 into the condition it should've been in when the owner acquired it not too long ago. Before- on arrival Some light swirling present under sun light Moderate Dust This motor GETS HOT- the one thing i've learned is that this V8 after 5-10 minutes of idling will turn the hood into a grille. Had to wait till the following day to clean the motor. Swirls present- thanks dealership....... damn idiots Wash/ decon phase: - 2 bucket method- third bucket for the wheels - Megs WB 10:1 - Megs APC 3:1 tires and arches/ pre-soak - CG Citrus wash and clear - Dawn wash - Pinnacle bug block Megs WB working SV brush and Uber spoke used here to agitate Pre- soaking with Megs APC During wash- CG Citrus doing its thing Dried....pulled inside and clayed with Uber blue fine clay and ONR for lube. Due to the car living in the city for most of its life thus far the Fallout and Oxidation was INSANE. Claying took close to an hour and ate up half of my bar! Under the lights Rockers and lower areas were hurting Random damaged areas such as this all over the car The rear decklid- the most damaged piece of the entire car- Buffer trails galore and heavy swirling here Passenger side over the rear tire some more tails present from improper machine use Just shy of midnight- smaller pieces left to do including the pillars, roof and passenger side rocker- looking the way it should be after 11 hours of work: The next day- front bumper work with the PC and the Flex. Light swirling before: After: Coming along well! Headlights polished out with Menz 106 on a green pad just to tidy them up a bit Finished product Interior shots: Alcantara wiped down with a MF- owner will revisit for protectant to be applied later on in the summer Apologies for not producing any after shots of the correctional process other than the front bumper- Simply forgot to take any- the morning of the second day I had to perform a basic package on a newer Mercedes E550- busy day! The correctional process took the majority of the time and consisted of Several different steps- M105 via Yellow/ Surbuf R series pad for the heavier areas- then properly finished down with either Menz SIP or Power finish. Most of the areas such as the door were corrected using Menz SIP and Super finish via Orange/green pads. The LSP used was Chemicals Guys JetSeal 109- two coats for optimal protection. Overall I was very happy with the achieved 90- 95% correction. Unfortunate to see such a beautiful car with various levels of damage however I was pleased I could bring the car to the level it deserved to be at- the owner was also very pleased. Thanks for looking! - Dan K.
Wow. That looks flawless man. Great job. Love the way the new 6 series look especially the headlights. That's one reason why having a garage is nice as you can work all hoirs of the night.
Thanks! Yes, I really liked this new body design- really interested to see where BMW takes there "knock off 2 cylinders and strap on a turbo or two approach!" X2 on the garage- my garage in VA I am able to work into the early morning hours- here in NJ....not so much. Thanks Franki!! -Dan
It gets hot because its the same Twin-Turbo V8 from the M5, with a little less power. A very efficient engine tho, especially with liquid intercooling
10-4, I had performed work over a year ago on a new X5M and all I remember is having to run a shop fan in front of the car to blow the hot air out of my garage- close the garage door and within 15 minutes the heay coming out of the front kidneys and from the hood would turn the place up 10 degrees. Thanks for lookin! - Dan
Beautiful work and what a gorgeous car! The sedan 6 series are my favorite though, they are really well balanced looking!
