Hi there, first post! So a while back I picked up a GG DA along with a set of Uber pads, for compounds I chose to buy Meguiar's M105 and M205. Used it for the first time yesterday, and also tackled it again today without getting the results that I wanted. I started with M105 and the orange pad but that still left some deeper scratches so I switched over to M105 with the yellow. This seemed to help a tiny bit but I was still left with some marring that honestly didn't seem to be too deep. One thing I noticed was that after one or, at most, two passes (Kevin Brown Method), the compound seems to dry up and I'm left with a clean surface. Perhaps I am not priming the pad enough? Some input would be great! From this To
This was after priming and polishing a section. And then I cleaned the pad with a jerry towel to showcase my pad priming. I then turned the DA to 1 and pressed down on the pad so that only 1/3 of it was touch the paint. After that, I spread the compound around the section. Seemed like I needed more compound. Spread it on the panel some more. After 2 passes all the compound seems to dry up into the pad? But the pad looks like this after. Am I just not applying enough product into the pad to begin with?
Dust2Glory: Do you mean to spray a little bit of water onto the pad whenever the product seems to dry up? Amercour: Hah, hmmmm maybe time to try new products then..
yes, that is what I mean. you can work it in for 2-3 passes, then mist the pad and work it in even further
Alright, thanks guys! I'll try both, wetting the pad and squeezing all the water out and also misting when(if) needed. Is D300 that good? Seems like a lot of people use it as their go-to with a mf cutting pad.
My opinion would be that foam is not going to provide the right ability to cut the deep RIDS he's trying to get rid of. I would recommend the Surbuf Pad found here http://www.detailersdomain.com/search.asp?keyword=Surbuf&search.x=0&search.y=0, and stick with the M105, but try to work it in 2-3 passes, let it dry then spritz the area on the paint and keep going... If you try the Meg's MF discs (http://www.detailersdomain.com/Meguiars-5-DA-Microfiber-Cutting-Disc-2-Pack_p_553.html) do the same thing, and also try to blow out the pads with compressed air ....this serves to fluff the fibers and clean the paint residue off, so that the fibers are more covered in compound than paint residue. Good luck!
Also wanna add, I've never once seen a RID (qualifier: you can't catch with your fingernail ) that can stand up to the surbuf. NOT ONE.
water and m105 works great to extended the work time. that looks to be an e46 bmw from the pictures ..i have had really good luck with m105 and meg mf pads and a decent amount of water on bmw clears
