Hey Guys, New to the forums, lurked for a while. Ive always kept good care of my cars that I've had over the years but am new to this aspect of it. Till now I've only used OTC stuff from walmart and what not, but now I am seeing the amazing selection of goodies from sites like this. (could be dangerous to my wallet) Anyway, so I recently traded in my 08 WRX in black (pta) , for a 06 MINI Cooper in a nice "royal grey". I've been reading and learning from the forums and have been very strict with my 2 bucket method and waxing very carefully as not to create any more swirls or marring. Ive been using Meg's No 26 as my LSP. My car looks great from a little ways away but the swirls and marring are driving me nuts. Im sure its from the other owner, and the dealership trying to help. My question is, being a newbie, do you guys think I could get these swirls and RIDS mostly out, with a kit like the Griots one on DD? If so what pads and polishes would you use? Any help is greatly appreciated! See, doesn't look too bad from about 10 feet. But in direct sunlight the swirls show their ugly face.. and one beading pic, just because. Thanks for looking, and for the help!
The Griots 6" kit comes with 5 different pads of your choosing. I think that you can use a Uber tang orange pad with M105 or 205 or Menz 203s. It really depends on how deep you want to chase the RIDS down. You can also use MF pads to clean it up with the Griots DA.
I think a simple system that works well with the Mini paint is the Meguiars DA Microfiber System. When correcting the paint just be ready to spend time. I will suggest that when polishing the pillers just use the Finishing Wax. The paint on the pillers is very soft and easy to correct. There is a great tutorial on Meguiars that does the best job instructing how it works, http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forum...ng-Meguiar-s-D-A-Microfiber-Correction-System ). If the damage is really heavy step up the cutting to M105 from Meguiars. Also get some tape to tape the trim around the roof and possibly the fenders. I have my new detailers tape those areas off due to filling the trim and plastic. Nice color. I would suggest the 5.5" pads. Bi enough for the larger panels and small enough for the little areas. Of course you could always get the 6" or the 3" pads, but to start they are not needed.
Thanks for the great information guys! I'll most likely be going with the Griot's and the Megs microfiber system. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I have the Griots kit from DD and love it so far, I'm also a bit of a newbie and the Griots is quite user friendly.
Not yet, my birthday is in a month so I'm holding out. ;D Will post pics of my first try once I get it!
