Metro Vac N Go Vs Shop Vac

Hey guys,

Looking at getting a smaller vacuum than what I currently have (Ridgid 60 Gallon Shop Vac). With a $120 or less budget I was thinking of getting a Metro Vac and Go with the hose for $80 but I herd some bad reviews about how it uses small bags and fills up fast (looses suction). Or at the moment I can get a 2 gallon Dewalt DC500 for $40 (Usually $100)?

 

I have a metro vac n blo, not sure I'd buy another one. Expensive and having some durability issues.

 

I have a Ridgid and it's probably my favorite detailing tool. You just cannot kill that damn thing and my blows a steady stream of air far better than my leafblower, yet is great for vacuuming it as well. Awesome piece of machinery.

I would get the expensive filter though as it's washable. Essentially you buy it once, then keep it forever. Makes sense to me.

 

I had the same question a few weeks ago, the thing worked wonders on drying my dog, but the price was more then a Craftsman that had a real blower and had far more power. I ended up going with the Craftsman.... 90.00 at Sears, 250 mph blower, 6.5 peak HP and better priced accessories and replacement parts.

 

I have a Ridgid 5.0hp, 4 gallon shop vac. Love this thing. I bought an accessory pack for it that came with several great attachments and a longer, more flexible hose. For what this thing does for the price, I could never justify one of Metro's units.

Any idea what the water lift rating is?

 

Quick question about the blower feature guys. Does it blow out dust/dirt after using the vacuum feature? Or does it have a filter to prevent the dust/dirt that's inside the vacuum? This is of course after emptying the canister.

Most shop vacs have a filter inline. So you can switch directly from vacuuming to blowing without any need to empty the canister or anything, just switch your hose from the intake to the exhaust.

 

Thanks for the response. And there's no dirt that gets blown out? I'm just afraid to use it to dry the car and wipe down the remaining spots after.

 

That's correct, no dust or dirt passes through the filter. I use it for blow drying cars all the time

that ridgid vac is great! im going to pick one up soon after using the neighbors.

 

I guess I'll be the first say that I like my metro vac n blo. It's small and easy to carry or wheel around a car. Super quiet as as well.

It is expensive and the bags are small. And it isn't meant for wet carpet and such.

Seeing as how I already bought it, I do like it. Would I buy another one? Eh, I'd do some shopping around first.

 

the Craftsman unit removes completely from the canister, which is perfect so if i want to chase my kids around with it im not dragging around the tank.

that is why I got the one I did, its almost a standalone system.

 

Boys, don't forget about Craigslist! There are always a LOT of Ridgid's for sale, and you can pick them up for a SONG.
