First and foremost I'd like to give a huge thank you to a member here that is hosting the website and helping me through my networking fiasco's. kyoshiro has been awesome throughout the past few days helping me get my domain reconfigured and helping fix my silly problems. I had a wordpress blog up for almost a year now but it did not give the impression that I was looking for. When I meet my clients I like to present myself with a professional image and I felt as though the wordpress was generic at best. So I booted up an old copy of Dreamweaver that I had from high school. I did some programming, mostly basic and C++, but I purchased the entire Macromedia student package so I had a handful of software at my disposal. I haven't touched any programming language in years and had next to no knowledge of CSS. I spent 10 hours the first night just trying to learn the div concept as opposed to tables with html. I wanted the site to be very efficient, simple, and progressive. To be progressive, it had to be modern. I blasted some techno, then Passion Pit, then some Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, and other inspirational music to keep me going. I swear, the site looked like crap when I was first learning but I had an image stuck in my head. The image was my logo on the bottom, an long never ending bar with the navigation, and a small hovering box with info up top. And the background had to make an impression. The background was going to be the main focus. After 10 hours, I finally figured out how to program in the proper boxes at the bottom and up top and designed them so that they changed depending on your computers resolution. I could finally sleep. The next morning I got back to work. I posted on a local subaru forum and asked for some members to get together for a photoshoot for my website which we are still currently planning. As of now one of the members lent me the current background although the resolution is way too low for my preference. When the site is completed it will present a random picture on every visit and every click and the resolution will be much, much, greater. But now the real problem comes the content. On my wordpress I usually just let the pictures do the speaking and added in some descriptions. Now with the new design it links out to galleries on flickr n facebook. Both need to be updated though and then also it links to an internal gallery which I'm coding right now. So my real problem is the content and right now I feel like it is too wordy and looks tacky. I'm extremely nit-picky, hence being a detailer, and am never happy with my work. So my question is. How do you guys feel? Not just does it "look good" but is the content sufficient and professional? Well, its a good start. Looks fresh, current. Things that I noticed... The font size was a 'little' too small for me to read easily. I'm not a spring chicken anymore, so maybe that's my problem... booking an appointment with an optometrist now. Your main links, Home, Services, Gallery, and Contact took me some time to find. My eye was drawn to the Facebook, twitter, flickr that I didn't notice your other links. Maybe they could be highlighted in a way? Maybe detailing could be more obvious from first glance? To me the page looks like a "tuner" site. Yes, if you read the intro you'll find out that your about detailing, maybe I'm just be nit picky? lol Excellent work on the coding! Keep it up!
Lol I'm just as nit picky. I've thought of starting from scratch again. I do appreciate the input though and I'll look into making some changes. Possibly shrinking the networking links or something to that nature. And the meet that I am scheduling with some local guys was going to be a detailing/photoshoot day but the detailing part could also be the photoshoot which would provide some excellent on topic photos. As for the font size, it basically is the smallest it can be but I do agree, most people it will probably bother. I could always bump that up just a little bit.
I agree with the above, the background picture...... I would re center it so the car is more predominant, right now its hidden. Do you have a brighter, higher resolution picture of the car?
Well that was the problem. That is one of the cars coming to the photoshoot but we only have pretty crappy resolution shots of it. Not until the meet will we have any better shots.
It gets the point accross, you CAN see the car has a very nice finish to it...... just should be cropped so its obstructed. Other then that its a great page, simple and clean
Thank you. I'm still working out the bugs and have been doing a lot of editing on my computer but I haven't uploaded anything new yet. I'm increasing the size of the font, cutting out the content of the front page, finishing the contact information, and working on a better background image.
