Hi guys. Had to post this as although most will not of heard of one, this is truly an original, being the only mk2 ever made. A friend of mine from another forum contacted me to help him complete this stunning car. I must at this point say mike had finished most of the car over many weeks, bit by bit but was having issues with finishing and the very lowest parts of the car. I was only too happy to oblige. So a few hours south and we began This was the car on arrival already looking sweet, just waiting for the icing But the sun gun is a cruel tool, as are the halides So we changed a few things and tried again Still not entirely happy, and due to the paint being so soft even the softest cloth with ipa mared it we switched to fresh zaino blondes out of the bag and water based polishes to eliminate the need for a wipe down. Which worked better So i continued round the rest of the car with the same technique Leaving us with Happy with the finish on the black and cream now i got on with the chrome. This was polished with the rotary, a finishing pad and festool ceramic high gloss polish Happy with the results i removed the number plate and holder to complete the front As the exhausts was rusted in spots i sanded it with a 4000 grit disc and some metal polish Then finished the rear bumper also Whilst the wheels were shown some love Which really lifted the view of the front end Then the sphynx was shown some love As time was getting on we dusted the whole car down and cleansed it with a 50/50 mix of prima amigo and blackfires gep, then sealed with the first coat of blackfires wet diamond which was left over night before buffing off. So i took some interior shots. What a cabin! In the morning we buffed the wet diamond and got some nice shots before the second coat went on Then took some outside shots with other little details completed, reg plate and holder back on etc. Can you say wedding car? Well its fair to say it was quite an experience working on something that is so rare, 1 of only 1 in fact, a real honour and privalege. Hope you enjoyed the shots and found it a little break from the norm Thanks for stopping by, stay classy
Awesome car. Incredible work guys. Congrats. What did you use on the chrome? it came out fantastic, especially the front wheels.
Incredible work! What kind of polish did you use (water-based)? I am having a lot of issues with a SL65 Black Series being marred by anything, so maybe I need to change up the polish to water-based. -Kody-
Thanks so much guys. I appreciate the comments. Brightwork was either machined with festool finishing polish or done by hand with the brightmax twins and mf cloths. Then sealed with blackfires metal sealant
Cheers kody. Either megs 205 or xpert 1500. Both water based and from past experience have very little filling properties when thoroughly worked. I can only assume that it had been restored at some stage and either baked incorrectly or that wax was applied as soon as it left the body shop. I had on a soft shell fleece as you see in some of the pictures, the sleeve gently brushed the boot and marred so bad I had to start again. Switching the polish just meant no need for ipa so less drag on the cloths. Hope you sort your issues with the merc pal
Man, you guys really did that gorgeous car some justice. Who is it manufactured by? I saw the hood ornament, but didn't recognize it.
