pete's 53

What is the durability of this stuff? Can't get Collinite 845 locally at the moment and need a good last step product.

 

It all depends ... I have seen it last 2-3 months max in the summer time. 845 is way more durable.

 

yeah cant really compare the two in that way. but i do like petes easy on easy off no streaking

 

cant comment on collinite, i know they are known for their durability. I've used 2 pots of petes 53 along with soveran...I like petes 53. Althought souveran did make my black "non metallic" cars look really wet..however I would assume the durability on that isnt long, unless maybe you put a sealant underneath, but again that depends on weather conditions..

I dont think u can go wrong with 53. I have yet to try 50/50 but have heard good things about it too. I'm using Celeste...and wow...almost bought anohter onyx or a concourso...I'm pleased with the investment in Celeste thusfar

Looks good, but doesn't last more than 2 months maximum during summer, from my experience.

I have a durability test with Pete's 53, collinite 845, and 6 others going right now. Pete's 53 outlasted 845. I should be updating again today. At the last update, Pete's 53 was alive and well at 6.5 months without ever using any detail spray. It is my favorite wax out of the 8 I tried, although 476 and AG HD are very nice too.

Wax durability varies widely based on how your car is stored. I have a black car sitting outside, and I'll get 6-8 weeks out of a wax. On a lighter color car that does not get hot and stays in the garage, I'll get 4-6 months out of the same wax applied the same way. The southern sun just kills waxes in the summer. My experience has been that the sun is much harsher at stripping wax than rain.

 

That was a pretty substantial test you did there and very well documented too. I was going to go for the 845 but I think I'll spend a couple extra bucks on the Pete's. Thanks for the input.

 

The problem with waxes is that the good often fall off the map when another "super duper" wax is introduced. I think that Pete's '53 is a great example. It's an impressive wax, and the beading is pretty insane. I think that the Jetseal 109 and Pete's '53 combo is still one of the best out there, although I've replaced it with Power Lock and Insignis...

Well I got my Pete's 53 today.....now I have to figure out how the hell you're supposed to get it out of the 3" container when most pads are 4" in diameter. Hmmmm.

 

Why do you want to take it out of container? I am guessing so you can apply it via d/a...just apply it by hand with a hand applicator.

 

yep, applying by hand.

 

Then if your going to apply by hand just swipe the pot with the hand foam applicator no need to remove it from the pot

 

Petes 53 is a great looking wax, last good for a wax but nowhere near 845

 

I really like Petes as a topper but not alone. It goes pretty good with 845 or powerlock.

Jetseal 109 and Pete's '53 is such a damn fine combo still...

 

Collinite 845 is a great wax and it's easy to use. Goes on an off like a sealant with little work to apply and remove. From my personal experience, it doesn't last anywhere near the manufacturer's claims. I mean, the wax might still be on, but it loses its beading properties pretty quick from my experience, so I can't visually see it doing it's job after about 5-7 weeks of application.

 

I agree the JetSeal 109 and Pete's 53 or 50/50 are winning combos in this this price point! We use these combo's quite a bit.
