Whats your process on this? I seem to always have the worst time getting liquid sealants and such cleaned out of my foam pads. I just got some new Uber pads and want to try and avoid it this time. Thanks in advance!
I soak my pads in a bucket with APC, like zeps or megs and leave it for a few hours, or even over night then wash it hot water. Repeat if needed.
Snappy pad cleaner works really well for me. Mix it up in a bucket, put your used pads in there when finsihed, agitating/scrubbing the pad surface with your finger tips a bit before letting it soak for a bit. +! for Snappy Clean -- It's a powder so easy to store, takes up no room like a gallon, etc... Works great on about everything I use in pads, and being a Rotary Power user, I use a lot of pads.. I hear some products like Blackfire Sealant will not come out of pads completely; I dont know about this because I only use small, thin yellow round foam pads to apply LSP's.. This product is strong and will remove oils from your hands, so you might want to use nitrile, latex, rubber, etc., gloves when handling pads for cleaning and rinsing. Dan F
I either use Dawn Power Disolver if I only have a few pads, but if I have a lot of pads, off it goes into the APC 5 gallon bucket overnight.
Thanks for the responses. I have been wanting to try the Snappy Pad Cleaner. Will use the APC style treatment for now until I can get some in.
I just use a few drops of dawn, tiny bit of water, and then work it in. Then I hold the the pad up under the faucet, and set it to come out of all the tiny holes, not the one big one(Although your faucet may be different), and I rotate it around while radiating from the middle to the edge. This helps to "push" the product out.
I gave up on that-can't get it all out so I just rinse in warm water best I can and let dry. Then I put in a zip lock with the name of the LSP and dedicate the pad to that application. SO far no ill effects. Just doing my own cars, so I only use a few LSP and therfore it is not big deal dedicating pads.
I soak them in Snappy Clean overnight. Then rinse them out with hot water. The spray some Hi-Temp Prep Wash a couple of times. Work that in with a toothbrush and then rinse with hot water again and they come cleaner than using Dawn Power Dissolver. You can never seem to get all the Dawn PD out of the pads. They foam up forever and still have very strong PD smell afterwards. I still dedicate a gold or red pad for each LSP that use a PC to apply.
Dishwash detergent or presoaking with Bilt-Hamber Surfex HD degreaser...then rinse off by squeesing until no products seems to be left
