Hi, Ive been interested in detailing for quite sometime. Generally doing my own cars I did it all, except for scratch and swirl removal. Now I went ahead and placed a nice size order with Phil over at DD and got my package within two days :applause:.

Now the kit I bought was the 7224 with 8 pads and I bought the 4 pack of the 16 oz menzerna polishes (Powergloss, Power finish, Super finish and Power lock), and a brush to clean the pads, and a few other things that are not polishing related so I wont mention

    My questions are,

How do I clean the pads (With the brush)
How do I prime the pads
How much pressure to I put on the DA (Is it different pressures for different polishes)
Which pad do I pair with which polish
Is cleaning the pad with the brush sufficient or will i need to buy a pad washer (I only do this for my cars not professionally)
    Speed settings for different polishes?
I saw in a video someone misting the pad with QD before applying polish, why is that? and do I need to do it?

Also if anyone has any how to videos (Ive looked on youtube but Im just wanting your opinions) and any suggestions or comments you have are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Vik

Ok so lots of questions and I may not have the answer to them all but here's my best shot.

    1. the brush helps get out excess product but pads aren't that hard to clean, so APC and water will take care of it. When I'm done polishing i give a spritz of APC massage it into the pad and keep running the water through them using the hose until the water runs clean, you'll want to knead the pads to get everything out.

    2. A spritz of water or detail spray does the trick

    3. You wan't to put enough pressure that the pad compresses a bit but not so much that the pad stops rotating. You really don't need a ton of pressure and all, it shouldn't feel like you're pushing down.

    4. The pads from detailers domain are labeled so you should just follow that.

    5. You don't need a pad washer, see my first answer

    6. For polishes add polish to pad, rub on paint (with PC turned off) turn on to speed 3, spread product, turn up to 5 or 6 to polish. When applying sealant speed 3 is good.

    7. Spraying DS on the pad is priming see my 2nd answer.

    Hope that helps some

One thing to note, just because you have 3 polishes doesn't mean you need to use them all, start with the power finish and a green pad and see if that removes the defects. If not you can use the powergloss. In general you want to use the least aggressive method needed. Power Finish is one of my fav prods, it finishes down amazingly well and many people use it as a single step polish (including myself depending on car color)

Thank you, I will do that. I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla as my test subject. Water spots and all has never been detailed just clayed and waxed! But has MANY water spots that must be a few years old. Any idea on the hardness of the paint?
