My buddy tints windows for a living and I always noticed he uses 5050 water/ johnson's baby wash to lubricate the window. I did a little research and found it was ph balanced, so I adopted the practice.....once.....for claybar lubrication. I only did it once on my personal vehicle and figured I should ask you guys what you think before I continue.

i am familiar with johnson shampoo and water but i didn't use 50/50 because i think that would be too thick. i always thought that the water is providing the lubrication and the shampoo or soap were used to break the surface tension of water

That makes sense, it worked pretty well, and the soap is really cheap.

Using any kind of soap will prematurely break down the clay bar. If you want to do this, use a piece of clay small enough that you are comfortable just binning it when you're done. :)

yup, Ken is right. Using soap water as claylube will break down the clay bar, tried with the riccardo yellow and claymagic blue before.

But what about ONR? Its kind of like a soap, would it prematurely break down the clay bar also?

Good question. But I have never experienced/heard of ONR breaking down clay bars.

Never had an issue with ONR breaking my clay. I mixed water and alot of different soaps/shampoos before and that ALWAYS destroyed my clay before I can even finish claying the car.

Must have something to do with certain items not getting along as I've had a few different clay bars go to hell after using with soap.

I use ONR at QD strength all the time for clay lube ... 3 years and not an issue .

Somehow my clay does not break down either????(Use it with soap during wash, as well as using QD sometimes).
