Given Up on Buying a Car

Alberta's oil related industries will shoot up i tell ya. Those sand, although requires a lot of work to refine, will be the future if the oil prices remains high.

YES and I have to go 94 on my GLK so thats like 1.6~ but ah well, its still not too bad compared to Hong Kong where its more like 2~3/L
and Edmonton was 1.10 or so

 

Only a matter of time, although it may have peaked to $1.40 before, translating to over $1.50 for 94. Insert carbon tax and I'm sure we'll hit that fabled $1.50 like a few summers ago.

 

Your right about HK, but the only difference between that and Canada, is that Canada is huge, If I want to do a grocery run, HK ers' can literally walk it whilst we always have to drive it (atleast in the suburbs) usually 2-3km, same thing with the U.K. they have about the same gas prices (conversion of units and currency done) but there essentially putting MS109 race gas into there tanks so they have atleast 1.5x the fuel economy we have and they drive shorter distances..I sorry if I have turned this into a rant but I wish more people participated in the April 15, "don't buy gas day" because our prices are totally artificial

to be honest, not buying gas day wont really do jack because its the oil market thats fucking things up. If the solution was that simple, everyone would of become a millionaire by now =p
since oil is traded in USD, we need to literally jack USD back up somehow so that an oil barrel is then worth less.

I love how the price of oil is camping close to 4.50 a gallon (premium) and at the end of Q2 and Q3 you will see them post record profits. What will happen is oil will get so pricey and people will cut back enough that there will become a surplus and it will begin to drop again about Sept. Oct.
I have gotten over griping about gas, there is very little you can do about it unless you modify your driving habits, or ride a motorcycle or bike, coming from a place where it is a car centric culture its hard for people to break themselves of bad driving habits, speeding, racing from light to light, un necessary trips etc. But during the last time gas spiked (3 years ago) that is exactly what happened, people modified their habits and gas prices started to decline. But remember, in the US, for ever gallon of gas you buy about 60% to 80% of that price is taxes, and fees.

 

Isn't there a yearly fee for having a hybrid or electric car, because the fed's aren't getting their road taxes from you buying gas??

Oh, and good decision on postponing the car buy. I would highly recommend saving up and buying a car outright with cash. No loans, no interest, no full coverage insurance... And you can get plenty of "cool" cars for cheap these days.

Hoping these are well powered. The new 2.0 Boxer only has 148hp, so I hope this has near 180hp (fingers crossed)- this might be the one when the time comes

 

it should be 2.0 + Turbo, no way its gonna be just 2.0.

this car has had multiple reincarnations and pushed back, cancelled, reinstated etc....... who knows when it will come to fruition.

 

I will personally kill someone if its going to be just a 2.0 NA, its gonna be so friggen underpowered especially when we're talking about boxers which are fairly 1:1 with horsepower n torque.
If it was a Honda VTEC engine, maybe it would be ok or the older Corolla I4 engines which dishes out awesome horsepower.

Direct injected, higher compression, and should be an enthusiastic and fuel efficient engine to say the least. Packed in a lightweight, FR platform car should be fun I just hope the interior is decent... TC is an econobox inside. A turbo would be a nice aftermarket mod! But may come in the Subaru version. While Toyota had 4 concepts, Subaru has showed nothing thus far...
