    Hi,

I'm going to be detailing my 2005 Silver Metallic Gray M3 for the first time tomorrow. It only has 15,000 miles on it and is in very good shape. Anywho, I'm going to be polishing it lightly tomorrow and was going to use my Gilmour Foam Gun II to help strip the wax off. I'm going to use 16 oz of CG CWC and I thought I remembered reading that sometimes one can add an apc (I have optimum power clean) to the foam gun to help strip the wax further??? If not I'll juse add 2oz per gallon into my bucket and use the 16oz in the foam gun and let er rip.

I'll try to take some pictures and post them. Thanks for your help.

    Matt

yea throw some APC into the mix as well but CWC has been pretty effective for me in stripping wax.
you'd be claying it before polishing it lightly no? that will strip the rest =p

    Hi Kyoshiro,

Yeah fo sho' I'm going to be claying after the wax stripping phase, either gloss it green/fine or uber blue. Maybe I'll just go CWC; the thought of some OPC in there would make me a little more nervous anyways. Glad to hear you've had good luck with CWC by itself stripping wax.

    Thanks so much.

hehe OPC is pretty safe on paint as far as i know but yeah you'll be fine with just CWC and especially claying afterwards

If the wax or sealant is recent, CWG wont do anything to strip it. I'd use the OPC in your Gilmour for your pre-rinse. Its totally safe and won't damage anything. Before I wax something, I run a 1:1 mixture of APC:water in my foam cannon.

if im doing a correction, i fill my lance/gun with 1oz Optimum Car Wash, 1oz P21S TAW and 1oz Dawn

then i add another 1oz P21S TAW in my wash bucket

    seems to do the trick

yea if you look at the writeups DSMS has been posting lately he has been doing a pre-soak before foaming with optimum power clean.

for ultimate strippage, this works well for me:

powerwash car, then pre-soak with a citrus cleaner/degreaser (i use one of those garden dispensers with the wand). let that sit for 2-4 minutes, then powerwash that off. then foam it with APC foam, then rinse, then wash.

Well crap. I wish I would have seen these posts sooner. I used the cg cwc in the foam gun, let dwell for 5 minutes, then washed with 2oz/gallon of the same. Still beaded. Then clayed with gi green clay, still beaded after the rinse. So I said eff it and just went on to polishing. It turned out amazingly well. The bfwd is waiting to be removed as I'm writing this. I'll post some pictures in the show and shine section in the next few days. I'll do some opc in the gun and in the bucket next time around. Oh well. Thanks for all the replies.

I like this method I am going to try that presoak with Zep Citrus at 4:1 on this 2011 Mustang 5.0 GT/CS I am correcting this week. Before I foam it down.

What would you suggest if you don't have a power washer?

Water hose with a strong jet should be fine for rinsing. It will be the chemicals that do the stripping of the sealant/wax.
