Hi guys Washed my car on the weekend to find driving in the rain then harsh Aussie sun for two weeks without washing has resulted in water etching on my bonnet again Atm protection is one coat of menz pl and I was hoping a sealant would protect against them, and it has everywhere but my bonnet, where the lack of decent underbonnet insulation, super soft clear coat and engine heat is baking them into the clear I tried cleaning with ipa and also dg water spot without success. I didn't have the time or patience to correct the bonnet again, so I just applied ck ymw + naviwax ultimate to every other panel thinking I'll work on the bonnet only next wash My question is, what are my other options in preventing the water spotting? I've recently done a huge kull of my sealants and only kept optiseal and pl. Would optiseal better protect? Or should I be looking at a super sealant for my bonnet only? I hear optimum is releasing a consumer friendly version of opticoat but I can't wait that long. I want to get my bonnet sorted asap. Any vendors care to send me a super sealant sample to test and review. Given our harsh sun and hard rain water it would make for a good test
i have read several times that nubas are better at repealing water spots. no clue if this is true. also i have a client with a black z06 with 2 coats of powerlock that complains of the same thing
The best wax I have found to protect against water spots is Pete's 53. I don't know why, but in my experience, it has shown to have great protective factors against water spots.
thanks for the advice fellas the only wax ive used so far that has prevented water spotting the longest was naviwax dark i might correct the bonnet, glaze with ck ymw and just apply naviwax ultimate on it's own rather than bothering with a sealant and cure times that's what i used to do on my 350Z that had similar issues, id just use a straight up carnauba, that way if i got spotting id just get to them quickly with a paint cleaner and re-wax i also get bad water spotting on top of my rear guards where water from under the boot spoiler crevices drips and sits on the relatively flat guard top panel im eager to wash the car now and see how slick this naviwax ultimate is in sheeting water
I have the same problems out here man I get a 100+ F weather most of the time, my black mustang gt would get water spots and I would have to correct it with 85RD to get it back to normal. The best sealant I have used to fight against water spots BFWD, 2 coats did help me out alot. It made the water spots removable with a wash and some quick detailer because they were not etched, unlike every other carnauba and sealant I have used. I now have coat of AG HD right now and its seem like its holding up pretty good, but I am going to remove it and apply Cquartz that I ordered from Phil.
yeh i think the next step for me is trying a super sealant ive always been hesitant because of the tricky app

guys ive bit the bullet and ordered cquartz ill give it a go on my bonnet first, and if the app goes smoothly ill run over the car quickly with one step 106FA and apply cquartz to all panels then im thinking with that as a base i can still play around with my glazes and waxes
I'd give FK1000 a shot. Its great at handling high temperatures and resists water spotting / etching very well. Cheap too.
Good to hear. Please start a thread and share your results with us when you do. Just remember no soap wash for a week after application.
