Mediocre Detail Of An 11yr Old Overland Rover

Not a detail to compete with most of the ones I see here by a long shot, but none the less I figured I'd post some pictures on here.

Take in mind this is a eleven year old Discovery that has spent all those years in the sun, with 170,000miles and has been used as an off road vehicle literally since day one. Taking that in consideration I don't think it looks all that bad.

I tried to organize the pictures the best I could with the "Before" on top and the "After" on bottom.

 

Rig looks great man. Are you on Expedition Portal? I'm gonna make my truck like yours sooner or later, not overdone but very capable.

 

I am actually on ExPo. Banned for some reason I was never informed of under my main username, but I'm still around using my secondary account.

I like to keep my modifications as simple as I can for that factory fitted look, the Disco has gotten a little "flashy - er" lately due to the vinyls however.

 

What a turnaround! Fantastic work. What were the products used and how long did it take you?

 

That was a mammoth of a job to tackle, looks tons better now.

You did an amazing job on this beast. It looks absolutely fantastic after. The paint looks stunning, the trims hardly faded. You would never guess the life that this car has lead based on these pictures.

I like to believe you can have an off road vehicle, use it for what it was made for, and still take care of it.




cnut- I started a little after noon and I believe I finished up about 5:30. Simply using Mother's products I can find here locally. I have to clean and do mini-details quite regularly so I can't afford to use anything too pricey, or have to worry about ordering it offline. The Rover does get dirty often after all.

Today I only washed it with the powerwasher to get the large stuff off, soaped it up and washed agian, then proceeded to do spot treatments where needed with the claybar/wax/rubbing compound before moving onto doing the entire body with Mother's showtime detailer. Used Stoner glass cleaner on the windows, also had to use one of my old claybars on the cargo bay door glass since it was especially bad. Also, I almost forgot, I used generous amounts of Mother's "Back to Black" on the mirrors and snorkel.

On the interior I used Meguiars Leather cleaner/conditioner on the seats.

What is the purpose of the tent being on top of the truck? I have seen this many times and in my mine I'm thinking to keep animals out while you sleep. Am I right on that thinking?

 

Exactly right, but it's also more than that. This tent has a significantly shorter setup and take down time compared to most ground tents, it is also much easier to work with. Setup and take down is in no way effected by the wind or weather since it does have metal framing. Also it has a mattress build in, and you do not need to worry about finding level ground, or deal with rocks and bumps.

 

LOL setup time was my second guess :applause2:

God that is a sexy beast! Great turnaround as well LOVE your set up. The Rover is handsdown my favorite rig ever. I have had almost every truck out there and the Rover is on my wishlist. Just AWESOME my friend.Totally forgot I was on a detailing site we dont get to see many rigs like that.:worship2:

It came out great man nice to see that you take time to clean it up after all that. The tent up there is the shit man! I hope your son is doing better as well man.

 

Setup/tear down time is a huge factor when your campsite is on the move for two months at a time. :thumb:

Yeah, I seem to be the odd guy out, here on a detail site. I guess my love of keeping things clean and looking sharp has stuck with me from my "sports" car days on into my off road trucks days.

Nice work on the Rover! How has reliability been during those 170K miles? Also, are those Hella Rallye 4000s you're running? I've got those on my older Dodge Ram, love 'em...
