Hey fellas, I might be closing on a house that comes with a small koi fish pond. I've always been a fan of ponds/fish tanks. I had several decent sized fish tanks when I was a teenager. I still remember fish tank care, but outdoor ponds have different issues. Any advice regarding forums and/or associations for this newbie? TIA, G
remember to put lots of bushes and artistic wood around it and be like JAPANESE GARDEN. other than that, just make sure your fishes can take the coldness and maybe look into getting something to cover on top when it snows. Rocks are also very importants and i dont think you may need a pump but u'll probably need some rocks that let out oxygen? Also dont forget the fishys can get attacked by birds, so i think a cover is important. Anyhow I just babbled. GOOD TO HEAR YOU CLOSING IN ON A HOUSE ANYHOW! gots the garage? PS. Make a rock waterfall too, it'll look awesome with a koi pond
it needs to be filled with maxisuds mix, through in couple menzerna bottles as decoration, use brushes as decoration and use big pads as decoration on top of the water like those floating big leafe things in amazon, forgot what they are called. )
I'm kinda getting ahead on the deal closing, but we are currently under contract. It does have a nice 2 car garage with a nice epoxy floor. The pond has some decorative rocks around and a nice filtration system. It also has a net that prevents leaves from falling inside the pond. I'll definitively add some decorations (bonsai), but it's a small pond. The fish are huge and I doubt he'll take them.
I would recommend a UV purification or an ion exchanger it will cut down on algae. I know some guy that's our go to painter and him and his son are obsessed with fish. lol very random thread
I know nothing about ponds or caring for fish but I think having your own Koi pond at home would be absolutely awesome. Something about Koi ponds that relax me. Hope it works out and that all the fishies live happily ever after!
funny that you mentioned this, but this the main reason why I had fish tanks when i was growing up. I've have struggled with anxiety all my life and one of my doctors recommended looking at a fish tank before going to sleep. I haven't had a fish tank since I moved to college. I found other things in college that relaxed me ... lol. I'll take pics if everything works out. Thanks Dave
