It is how the wheels look when my friend picked up his car from a detailing shop. The owner said a guy that is new to work has sprayed P21s on the wheels. Is that the real cause?and what is the best way to get rid of these water spots?

Very safe. Are you certain those are waterspots?

Well, the rest of the wheels don't look very clean. P21S gel wheel cleaner is VERY safe. It's ph neutral, and one of the only cleaners that is 100% safe on all wheels. Looks like etching from a cleaner that was too acidic.

Work wheels have an anodized lip which is even stronger than regular clear coat

i used P21S on my Work wheels every wash and never had a problem

+1 looks like an acidic cleaner has done that job

not sure that can be fixed without stripping and re-clearing the lip. You could try a paint cleaner with mild abbrassives, something like dodo lime prime. Dont use an abbrassive polish as it will turn the anodized finish into a rainbow like effect

I agree with the others, I cannot see P21S Wheel Cleaner doing that. It is hands down the safest wheel cleaner that I have ever used.

needless to say, the guy probably didn't use P21S on it.

Its not P21S. That staining is from using an acid based cleaner. You should be able to polish that out with a MF and some metal polish.

Actually, the gel isn't PH neutral. Its ph "controlled" and has a ph rating of 9. 7 is neutral.

they might have used wheel brightener or something similar which CAN NOT BE USED on aluminum wheels, it says it on bottle

Looks like APC stained the lip. I have seen that happen before.

If you read through the entire thread, the owner was using Eagle One Mag Cleaner on the wheels. That is probably what cause the issue. I have never used distilled water when diluting products and have never had an issue.

I'm a little confused as to which thread you are referring; the one I cited or the one in which we are writing? I'm under the impression jason827 was told P21S was used.

If you are referring to the thread I cited the OP was in fact using P21S

    "UPDATE:
I think I figured out what cause the etching. I always diltute my P21s gel to 3:1. This time, I did it with normal tap water instead of distilled water. I did one mix with distilled and the other one with tap water. What do you know, distilled water one came out perfect. mmmm ....

Read the last few posts on page 3, it was the E1 Mag Cleaner the customer had used prior.

You are correct in that he did use P21S. Problem was, the owner had previously used Eagle One, likely on hot wheels, and the damage was hidden by the accumulated dirt when the OP showed up to clean the car. P21S is a ph neutral cleaner. It will not stain wheels regardless of where the water comes from.

Thanks for the commets, but the damage has been sitting on the wheels for a year. I am thinking to use P21s polishing soap to remove the etching, or does mother's aluminum polish works? I don't have much products available

Exactly, the guy probably used Megs WB simply because it's cheaper, ruined the wheels, and now doesn't want to be responsible...P21S would not do that...Many detailers use that acid based cheap junk that should NOT be used on aftermarket wheels...

the lips are anodized (form of clear coating)

using a metal polish only works for non clear coated wheels. Using a metal polish on clear coated wheels is the last thing you want to do
