Have to get one on Monday. The microphone crapped out on mine. I would rather just get a new phone than pay the $50 deductible on this one. Currntly have a crappy LG VU. Service is through AT&T. The iphone 3gs is $99, iphone 4 is $199. Maybe a droid? Maybe a blackberry? I have no idea. What do you guys recommend/use? I go on the internet - a LOT. and text quite a bit too.
I currently have a nexus one with tmobile, and I would say to avoid tmobile, unless the reception is great in your area then you may want to consider the tmobile G2 (android device) because it is HSPA+ (like 4G) capable which is suppose to receive up to crazy amount of MBPS, you can check if they have the HSPA+ network in or upcoming in your area on the tmobile website. It also has a qwerty keyboard which makes texting easier. However I'm switching to either sprint/verizon because of the lack of great reception in my area for tmobile. If speed is a concern sprint is also an option as it has the Epic 4G and the EVO 4G which both boast heavy data speeds, but with the addition of $10, should also check if its in your area. Hardware wise the EPIC 4G is more advanced than the EVO, but its all up to personal preference. ..and Verizon also has great phones which are reliable, DroidX, Droid2, Fascinate(similar to the Sprint's EPIC 4G), and the incredible. Verizon will also release their 4G network called LTE sometime around the end of the year. The iphone 4 is also a nice phone, but I would only recommend it if ATT has a strong network in your area.. my friends with the phone regularly have dropped calls. OK I hope I was of some assistance.
As an iphone 4 owner, i will tell you that I love mine. I have the Dragon dictation app so I can speak into it and copy the words into a text, email or a forum post. The apps for the iphone are very cool. I love the ipod part too and you can make your own ringtones for free through itunes. Phones are as personal as waxes I think. I suggest you do not rush your decision and take a day with each one to try it out if you can.
the iPhone browser is second to none. If your highest priority features is a killer browser than you choice is iPhone 4 by a landslide. I've spent decent time with them all, iPhone, Hero, Evo, Droid, Torch, Bold ect. My iPhone rides shotgun every time. If you go the android route make sure you get the one with the most CPU speed you can, it will make your experience much more enjoyable. My $0.02
I'm a long time iPhone user who switched to a Droid X last month. No regrets. It's every bit as good as the iPhone for "most" things, at least, the things I do. I think the browsers are basically a tie, probably because they both use the same rendering engine under the covers. I liked the DX keyboard a lot better, until last night's update to Froyo. They took away some stuff that I really liked - particularly the '. ,' button. Same key for a period or a comma, double tap versus single. I hate that they got rid of it, it was great. The thing that caused me to switch? Turn by turn navigation. It's extremely well done and zero cost. The thing I dislike about it the most? The music player. Apple has that figured out really well, and Google just...doesn't. It's rubbish. I'm glad I kept my iPhone, just as a music player.
it was rubbish when it was new, it was built by idiots, and it's rubbish now... EXACTLY - check this out - YouTube - Top Gear America Challenge Part1 of 7 05:30 is the exact place you wanna look...
If you go on the internet quite a bit, its a tough choice between the iPhone and a newer Android device. iPhone is more polished but you are really limited to just surfing. Want to download a file from a web page, forget it, flash, forget it. Android is a lot more free, but it also less polished. Both have really crappy email and battery life compared to a blackberry. Phone reception also varies by device, obviously the 4g has issues, but so do other phones. Make sure you get a liberal return policy and test drive a few devices.
Is that why it won't play videos in email? I wondered about that? I have to wait till I get home to see the quality porn my friends send me, LOL. I hope they will have that in an update soon. Has that not been an issue for a while?
It's why you can't view embedded videos on websites. I'm going to say it isn't why you can't view videos straight from email, but that's good to know, hahaha.
Well, it was between the Iphone 4 and the Samsung Captivate (which runs the droid OS, I guess). I ended up getting the iphone4 16gig. They told me I get a 30 day trial, so if I hate it, I can bring it back, pay a $35 restock, and get the captivate. They had to order the phone, so it'll be here in a couple days. What I don't like about the iphone already: 1. no insurance available. The insurance on the captivate is rather crappy anyways ($150 ded.) but better than a whole new phone. 2. different sim card. That means if the iphone sh*ts the bed, I can't swap the sim card to one of my older 2 phones to still make calls. I'm still unsure I made the right decision.
The surfing experience on the iphone can't be beat. Testing is awesome, and the face time chat is cool. I wasn't an apple fan but the iphone is great, and I'm still not a fan lol
They can't be more fair than allowing you 30 days to play with it. No phone will be perfect, I'm sure someone on here could find fault with whatever one you end up with. The bottom line is how you like it after 30 days. I'd offer to do facetime with you, but my ugly mug might crack your screen, hahahha.
On my 4th consecutive blackberry with no complaints, but mine is 90% work, 10% play so I need it most for email and organization. Something my previous touch screen phones didn't do well. I may be persuaded to switch to an iPhone should apple ever wise up and offer it on CDMA carriers. GSM service around here is an absolute joke and has been so for some time now. Verizon and Sprint both have much better service in my area.
