This was one of the hardest cars to work both inside and out. I will let the pictures do the talking and please refrain from eating while reading this, you may make a mess on your computer. The Process The Interior The interior was first cleaned out, many garbage bags worth of stuff was taken out. The interior was then vacuumed and blown out with compressed air Many of the stains were pretreated with AM 777 at 5 to 1 and Proshield Punch at 10 to 1 The drivers side had a huge build up of salt that was pretreated 8 times with Bocar Salt Remover The driver side was scrubbed vigorously with a carpet brush trying to bring up all the dirt and grime that was in the carpets. The center console was then cleaned with AM 777 at 5 to 1 and Laquer thinner to get out the nail polish that had toppled over many years ago The rest of the vinyl was scrubbed with a toothbrush and other various brushes trying to get all the crap out of the cracks. The carpets and upholstery was then pretreated with AM Carpet and upholstery Cleaner and scrubbed into the fibers. The car was then extracted with an Aztec Hot rod thoroughly, I used 6 tanks full of water when I normally use 2 for a car. This is the final result of the interior Remember the gross salt build up on the drivers side, gone! And that’s the interior all done, now you get a chance to see the exterior, yikes!
This is the before shots of the exterior of the accord with the lovely interior. My first thought was a black wool edge pad and Malco Tru Grit compound and then follow up with a polish on a rotary. I first checked the paint reading to see if this route was going to work. I got readings around 120 microns, not bad. Then I went to the doors at that when my plan went out the door. The readings were 102, 100, 97, a little low to compound the doors. So I had to rethink my plan of attack. I decided on trying out UCCL on my PC XP on a Gloss it Yellow pad. The results of 2 Passes were pretty remarkable. The Before Some beautiful scratches in the door Another shot of some more scratches Here are the 50/50 shots And on to some of the final shots. Th e tire got AutoValet Enchanter and so did the wheel wells. I put a coat of Werkstat Prime Acrylic via my pc and a Red Gi pad. Wiped off with Cookie monsters. In total this car took a little over 14 hours to complete. I swear I used every brush, cleaner ect somewhere in this car. It was a chore and I hope the owner likes the results. Thanks for looking.
Now that I have replaced my keyboard after spiting soda into it, should have listened... Looks good and a great turn around on the interior... How do people let things get like that!!!
oh god. I've done some bad ones but god damn ridiculous salt AND rotting food in one car? I don't envy you! nice work
thanks gents, one of the biggest factors that allowed the car to be cleaned to this extent was time. The detail was done over 3 days, allowing the salt remover to work properly. 8 applications over three days.
Great job on the detail! :applause: I've done something that was just about that bad...once, and I hated it. It was a Honda Pilot. But the owner was only paying my like $30 and I only had a couple hours so I just did my best. It was so nasty There was even rotting food, several month old cookies piled up in the back. I basically wiped everything with APC, vacuumed it, treated a couple of the worst stains, cleaned the windows and gave it back. The funniest thing...the owner's kid said "it's just like a new car!" and the owner herself was very impressed.
have you tried a steamer on the salt, bryan? it usally takes me about an hour to remove heavy salt stains (granted, not that bad) but it can be done on-site with no chemicals.
That's not even right! I would have turned that shit down QUICKLY! Outside, sure. But the inside, hate doing interiors...
A steamer is on the list of things to get next year, I don't have the finances this year to get a professional one. I have heard after the carpet dries the salt is still there unless you break it down chemically. But I will definitely try steaming stuff next year.
i didn't have a choice to turn this one down. Last year I worked on a minivan that made a coworker puke it was so bad.
