Guys ... One of my co-workers asked me today to inspect a recently keyed Kia Rondo (white). The scratch extends from the driver's side door to the rear passenger's. the front door can be compounded, but the rear door scratch needs to be touched up and wetsanded. How do you guys charge for a repair like this? I know most people charge by the hour here. I'm thinking about $100-$125 bucks. This would include touch up, wetstanding and compounding and polishing. It's not a large area and it's a pretty straight scratch. TIA, G
I'm going to touch up the scratch twice before she leaves it at my place for the wetsanding and correction part. She lives 5 mins from my place. touch up shouldn't take me more than 20 mins each session.
Well... then I'll come rub sand on it. What types of supplies do you have? What grit sandpaper? I'd soak it as early as possible. Clean the spot with IPA first. Do you have a PTG? I've been on a wetsanding binge lately---- headlights, cellphones.... yada yada.
I have all the necessary sandpaper (from 1000 to 3000 grit) and a HL II paint meter. I got everything I need for the repair. I just want some type of advice on the charge.
Well I haven't done a repair like this before for a client, but I think it's in your best interest to charge slightly under and throw something else in the mix. Good word of mouth comes from that. Provided you're going for that type of side job thing. Good luck my man.

worst money you'll ever try to make. It depends heavily on the color match of the touch up paint AND the customer's expectations. They are asking you simply because they know its about 200 bones a panel to do the job properly in a body shop. Just my opinion
It's non-metallic white and they don't want perfection. The customer is looking to minimize the look of the damage.
