Replica TBSS 22" wheels from FR on 285/45 Kumho rubber... suspension is up next... or should I say going down next
Nope, just gloss black, but the reflection from that angle makes them look like black chrome. Once I get a chance to give the truck some love, polish the wheels up and seal them I'll take some better pics.
TBSS = TrailBlazer SS FR = Factory Reproductions For those that hadn't seen the ride I sold to get the Avalanche... can you see a pattern developing here
What made you switch rides like that? What benefits are you getting out of the Avalanche that you couldnt get out of the TBSS? (besides the bed of course..thats the only reason I can really see)
I bet the avalanche makes it places the TBSS couldn't. But with the way the vehicles are set up, I'm guessing they are tar babies Nice choice of wheels/vehicle!
Practicality... with a family and specifically a son who has special needs I needed more room. The TBSS was fun, but the back seat in that thing is a joke, especially with all 6'2" of me driving. Also didn't help that the transmission was made of wet toilet paper and would break if you ever thought of mashing it. Bought it in late 06 and by the time I sold it December last year it was on its 3rd transmission, 2nd rear end, and a whole new frame (don't get me started on that). It was a fun truck, don't get me wrong, but GM didn't put a whole lot of thought into dropping a 400hp LS2 into a truck that was already aging and backed it up with a trans thats original design dates back to the 1980's and the 700R4. Its also nice having a lot of usable cargo area and the rear seat leg room went from 37" in the blazer to 46" in the Avy, not to mention #1 in the pickup category for 2009 according to consumer reports. The quality of the truck is just a lot higher than what I got with the TBSS, and quality/reliability took precedence in this since I have a family to think about first. If I could've afforded to keep both I would've. The TBSS would've been a weekend toy and reliability wouldn't have been a concern, but as I'm sure most of us know... no ones getting rich detailing. It pays the bills but I'm not about to retire early thats for sure LOL.
Oh wow wasn't aware of all of the drivetrain weaknesses. Although Ive had no reason to really read up on them. I suppose I was blinded by the ls2 under the hood. LSx > * Dont think Ive seen a lowered Avy before. Keep me posted on the progress.
Yea, sadly the drivetrain is seriously under spec for the power in front of it IMO. I wasn't heavily modded, exhaust, intake, and dyno tune... that was enough to give me problems. I take responsibility for the first one dying... spent a day at the track when it was about 85* out and on the last run it gave up on launch. The other times it was all just normal driving conditions and CLUNK! there goes the tranny. The no lowered Avy thing is whats making me go this way... theres a few nice lifted ones around, but lowered ones... not so much.
I want it! my girlfriend's father had a first gen avalanche and loved it. He didn't buy it out because the cost would have been more than buying a used one off the lot. He ended up leasing a new sierra and regrets it. He said the avalanche was the best truck he's owned. it rode great, had an excellent stereo, was quiet and was very versatile. I would like to see a detail and lots of pictures from you. maybe when you get a free weekend?
This is the only avalanche that I have ever seen that was lowered but the drop is not that much right? Otherwise I love the new truck/rims but I never knew that TBSS s had any problems like that.
Truck looks sick! I've always like those Avalanches. I'm going in the opposite direction as far as suspension goes though.
slick ride. that Trail Blazer looks sick too but man if i was going through transmissions like that i to would hate the vehicle. Black looks so sick clean but it is a whole new full time job. Never again will i own black LoL.
LOL... thats the M.I.C. Avy... looks good tuckin' 30" wheels, but under the skin supposedly its all hacked up and the work isn't that nice. I saw it go thru phases of the build at various shows and its definitely nuts. No joke... I keep swearing off black, then I buy another black vehicle. Its like an abusive relationship LOL Regular Escalade is build on the tahoe, Escalade ESV is on the Suburban chasis, and the EXT is the same as the Avalanche. They share a lot of panels and the chasis, but the interiors, drivetrains, and options on the caddy are all far superior. I just want the rear plastics from the EXT so I don't have to try and smooth/paint these. Problem is I think GM wants north of $8k for them unpainted!! :yikes: Nope, that is really an avalanche laid out on 30" rims... YouTube - MIC AVALANCHE ON 30" ASANTI Thanks!
