Just out of curiosity - How many of you use only wax? What do you like better about wax? What do you not like about sealants? and How many of you only use sealants? What do you like better about sealants? What do you not like about wax? Me I'm very seriously leaning towards sealant only. I tried Jeff's Werkstatt Prime again a few weeks ago and I was just blown away. It emphasized the flakes in the paint and left a very nice wet shine. Two coats of Blackfire & three coats of Acrylic Gloss later and I have a very wet looking shine. It looks a lot like the kind of shine Fuzion leaves but better - wetter looking & I still have sharp reflections. My truck is a light color ("pyrite mica" - a light brown) and this is the best I've got it to look so far including Autoglym HD .Fuzion & Pinnacle SSII
How many of you use only wax? What do you like better about wax? What do you not like about sealants? 1) I only use wax or synthetic waxes such as Collinite. 2) I personally like the experience of applying a wax as using my hands for that final application of an LSP is what I feel rounds out a detail. I am also a big fan of beading and the unique scents, colors, and other subtle nuances of paste waxes which may all contribute to my pyscological experience but I don't care since they are all in the experience. 3) I feel that sealants have their place in detailing and subsequently use them on all my customer's cars due to ease of use, durability and good protection properties. I do not prefer the experience of applying liquids as an LSP for the most part and have sold most of my liquid sealants but again, I do feel they have a place in detailing and still use my favorite (Collinite 845).
i only use paste waxes.. i love the warm dark glossy look of a nice wax. pinnacle/swissvax currently.. and very relaxing waxing.. im in my own zone when im waxing..
I use them both Sealant when i'm too lazy to pamper my car, better durability than most carnaubas..leave it for weeks and it still looks the same Carnauba because i simply love that warm look from the carnauba, but after 3-4 washes it somehow lost its touch so just went ahead and reapply it again
great post! using carnauba pastes is definitely about the overall experience [ smell, colour, application, removal etc rather than just the final look
If I am lazy or in rush, I will use sealant or liquid wax only. +1, Agree to all of you abt paste wax application, it take time to apply, wait to haze and removal, but its pleasure to do it.
I tend to use both... Pretty much for the reasons posted. BUT... Usually when I do a sealant I also follow up with a paste wax if I have time. I love the ease of application of a Sealant but I think it can make a car look too bright, especially light colored cars.... Top with a coat or two of a nice 'nuba and it warms the color up. I like this combo because it just gives a bit more protection and gives the warmth I like to see. Not to mention it is that much more time out in the garage
in my situation, i have two black vehicles 1. is a toy- it gets a nuba because to date there isnt a sealant that looks similar to my favorite nuba, plus like other said its the whole nuba experience that i enjoy. 2. is my wife's daily driver- she puts 600 miles/ wk on it so it needs all the protection it can- i use a sealant and then top it with a nuba. my daily is a white pick up- on white imo sealants look the best rather than nubas, so it has a sealant on it.
do you think a wax by itself looks the same as a sealant first then wax on top? my concern is the way the wax adhere to the paint or sealant.
IMO ... most of the times this holds true, but sometimes you get a nice mix of both. For me, it depends on a lot of factors. I tend to prefer nubas during the summer time and sealants during the fall/winter time. Not only because of their protection levels, but also the amount of sunlight that reflects on the paint. My non-metallic paint is way too glossy/flassy if I use a straight sealant during the Summer. I usually use only a nuba or (1) sealant layer and / (2) nuba coats. The same thing goes for my wife's metallic olive green.
I've never heard of waxes having a problem adhering to sealants. It's always been the other way around. As far as looks are concerned generally no. A sealant topped with a wax usually doesn't look the same as wax alone. Bear in mind I am not saying one is better than the other - just different. You'll have to try it both ways to see which you like the best.
I have used just sealants on my wife's SUV (going for durability since it isn't as babied as my A4), but I seal and wax (Pete's 53) my Audi. I find, like most said here, it really warms up the darker flakes of my Meteor Grey and gives it that extra depth that you pay for with nubas.
Guess I'll have to change my vote to sealant and wax. Autogeek has Fuzion on sale and I couldn't remember how it looked so I wound up putting on a coat to refresh my memory. The last time I tried Fuzion I had layered it on top of Pinnacle SSII and Autoglym HD and I was not impressed at all (Gee I wonder why....). But using it as the only wax was a revelation. My SUV is a light brown ("pyrite mica") and this stuff actual added to the wet look and glow that Jeff's Werkstatt left. Look at any flat areas and you see beautiful sharp deep and unbelievably colorful reflections. Loof from an angle or at any corners ,raised areas ,or curves and all you see is a very nice glow/wet look.
For me I switch between Productions Carnauba Plus and there Carnauba Paste wax. Gives awesome results. I know Production is mainly used for Detail Shops and Car Dealers. But I have tried alot of the High Dollar waxes and these products by Production are awesome, I am not gonna spend hundreds of dollars on one can of wax just to impress someone and say I have a expensive can of wax. Production is alright by me.Gives great shine and very good durability.
