I believe Aquartz should be hydrophilic and it is A+ that gives the hydrophobic characteristic onto the surface being applied upon.

EDIT : Hi Jon, I was reading a few posts on other forums and read that my above statement is coherent with Avi's post. I do know the difference between Hydrophillic and hydrophobic. Did I misinterpret your post? Now I'm confused :(.

    correct.
Sorry Jon but the coating is not 3microns , 3 layers of aquartz are maximum of 0.8~1micron, :thumb:

I just checked the Aquartz user gide on Home. There is a discrepancy between this excellent guide and the user guide. The temperature of the heat gun indicated by the user guide is around 500 celcius while in this article, it is around 150 fahrenheit.

You are correct that's what it says - 6. Use heat gun 300 ~500 C. for 5 min. all over the coated area, let cool down.
(500.oC = 930.oF) need to check with Avi as something seems wrong with these temps?

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) paint is cured at high temperatures; OEM paints are cured in a paint oven at around 320. °F (160. °C) for 20 minutes

Wev'e used both a hairdryer and sunlight to cure the coating, neither will obtain 500.oC)

Spot temp on a clear coat should not exceed 115.oF

Am I to understand correctly that any spot on the clear shouldn't be heated past 115°F?

That seems awefully low, especially when you consider the temps that can be reached when polishing :shead:

In accordance with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) a localized (spot) temperature of > 115.oF will cause the urethane clear coat to soften and the foam pad will cause scratching to be forced deep into the clear coat.(See also the first law of thermodynamics et al)

+1 Excellent point David, also in terms of humid summers finishes get far hotter than 115d, albeit nothing is being rubbed or polished on the finish I still think that number seems low for curing.

This is what we based our usage temps on -

Heat gun Temperature settings and uses

    Drying paint or varnish - 30 to 130 °C (86 – 265.0F)

    Paint stripping – 500.oC (932.0F)

    This is Avi (Aquartz) response

    Dear Jon
any heat gun spec is between 300 ~500 deg,
heat gun is good in winter time , in very cold weather
in summer time good sun bath is very good for the car, no need heat gun, its not a must

AQuartz+ is being replaced by Reload

AQuartz+ was meant as a temporary coating until Aquartz was full cured; Reload does not contain the same chemicals, its water based with modified silicon glass fibres.
We had some problems with AQuartz+ consistency, during air flights and freezing temps.
Aquartz contains the hardness and anti scratch property, Reload will protect from water stains until Aquartz has fully cured, around 7 days, never the less , Reload will last longer than AQuartz +

hJon...I just ordered some Aquartz a few days ago to try out (and I am getting some Opti-Coat too as a comparison). I wish I was told about this when I ordered.:tlaw: Can I get some clarification on the application process? I have LCC blue, gray and red pads as well as the gold 8" as well. OF those, which one do you recommend with the DA? So, apply, heat up, and remove immediately or when cool? Apply 2nd coat when cool is what I remember too I believe? (or do I have to wait?) I am very excited to try these 2 products. Their whole line sounds amazing...$$ permitting, I'll play with more of their products later. Thanks for your help. The videos on Youtube are helpful.

Some retailer's are still selling the AQuartz+.

I'm still talking to Avi about application but I think you use it like a spray wax (but don't quote me on that) will advise ASAP

    Best info to-date

    AQuartz Reload

Reload is a water- base spray sealant, based on modified Silicon (should not be confused with man-made silicone) glass fibre polymer. It exhibit hydrophobic and high gloss property, very easy to use on all surfaces (vehicle trim, glass, rubber and vinyl). Wipe on – wipe off (WOWO) works best on a wet surface, can also be used on or dry surface.
Reload is a temporary sealant coat, no a quick detailer (QD) and has no cleaning properties, durability up to 3-4 months

Use Reload after applying the Aquartz coating, which provides further protection from water until Aquartz has completely cured, average consumption per car 50ml, shelf life - 6 months, store in a cool dry shaded place.

I would love to see a comparison between Matrix Micro Coatings and Aquartz. I have had Matrix on two of my loaner cars for 4 years, and they're still beading water like day one.

Jon..I meant clarification as to application. Can you refer to my above thread about which pad to recommend and when to wipe down and re-apply? Thanks.

Q: Can I get some clarification on the application process? I have LCC blue, gray and red pads as well as the gold 8" as well. OF those, which one do you recommend with the DA?

Gold as it’s the softest (100 PPI)

Q: So, apply heat up, and remove immediately or when cool? Apply 2nd coat when cool is what I remember too I believe? (or do I have to wait?)

Allow coating to cool before removal

NOTE: For hand application I’ve found that a sponge inside a zip-lock bag (avoids too much product being absorbed by the sponge) wrapped in a micro fibre towel, using medium pressuer

AQuartz Reload is a very new product, you'd have to ask vendor for availability
