i have some wheels that have a heavy amount of brake dust on them. I dont really want to use my diablo wheel gel because im running low, and using apc is much cheaper. So is APC+ safe to use on the wheels? and if so, is a dilution of 4:1 safe, or should i use a 10:1 dilution? the wheels are the oem set on an 08 toyota sienna minivan these: thanks for your help guys
If they are clearcoated, you should have no issues. I am not sure about any potential issues if they are uncoated. However, MOST oem wheels are clearcoated now. To find out, take a small amount of metal polish (like p21s polishing soap or the like) on an inconspicuous area of the wheel. if the rag turns black, they are uncoated. If it doesn't turn black, the wheels are clearcoated.
Yes, all but Simple Green will do you justice. I recommend Purple Power or Castrol's Super Clean On the wheels you describe I would blast them full strenght. On just your average dirty wheel 50/50 Never use any kinda APC on a non coated wheel opcorn: EDIT~~~ I just noticed the pic :shead: Those wheels look about as clean as there gonna get :giggle:
Oh..... Oh yea, never clean a wheel with APC if it is still hot from driving/braking. Move on to the body and hose down the wheels to help cool them off as you wash the body :meditation: You can also warp the brake rotors if cold water hits those red hot rotors :gasp:
Good point. For some reason, I assume that everyone knows to wait until the entire vehicle cools down.
yeah, i've used megs regular apc on many wheels and never had a problem. so my guess is that apc+ is just as fine. As for dilluction, 4:1 has never let me down.
If they are they are as bad as you say they are I wouldn't hesitate to use 2:1 as long as you don't allow it to dry on the wheel. Let the APC dwell for a min to two and go to town with some brushes, and obviously rinse really well.
