you're going off track - my original post was about straight line acceleration, more importantly from a dig and AWD is easier and quicker off the line in most cases - yes i can imagine a RWD 911 launching very well, afterall they are known for this given the weight over the rear wheels AWD does not a track weapon make. It adds weight, unnecessary drivetrain complexity and numbs steering response, hence the reason Porsche do not use it on their track focused cars....GT2, GT3, Carrera GT. Those cars have more to do with feel and response, rather than idiot proof handling Do you know the reason Porsche started using an AWD system on their turbos.....the original single turbo 911's and 930 Turbos were not called widow makers for nothing
Suspension/frame/tires not only affect handling, but also have a big impact on the launch. And as I said, just install a set of sticky tires and you won't have to worry about AWDs on a launch. On a powerful muscle car, a set of Nitto 555R or ET Street will make you as fast as any AWD w/ the same power. The magazines have to use cheap OEM tires, that's why you see such a big difference between the Shelby and the GTR. Agreed. That's why I said "nowadays". Today's frames and suspensions technologies make the AWD more and more pointless.
