I have some pretty serious swirls on my wood trim in my car. I tried Megs #17, and 3M Plastic polish using both microfiber and even rubbing in with an Uber orange pad by hand. Neither really did any correcting. I tried Menz 85RD and that did nothing either. Would it be a mistake to try and use Power Finish on the trim? The scratches are really evident when light reflects off them.
I have SV wood wax too its only a wax, has no abbrassives in it to remove scratches smells and looks very similar to Mystery imo
If the scratches are deep, you will need to either wet sand or use a stronger compound. They are clear coated just like the paint. AND, just like paint, not knowing how much clear there is to play with is dangerous. I had a table I compounded with M105 and an orange pad. It came out OK but I was really nervous that I'd go through the clear. So, to answer your question, yes you can use a stronger compound but you may strike through the (probably) thin clear, so be very careful.
I used Power Finish on faux wood trim in an Acura TL and then used 85RD. This combo worked really well. The SV wood polish (as far as I know) doesn't have any abrasives. I could be mistaken though.

My mom has a 2006 LS430 and I tackled your same issue on the wood around the gear shifter and the center console. I used Megs Ultimate Compound after trying Power Finish by hand to no avail. UC cut right through the moderate swirls and left a fantastic finish. That is what I would recommend, especially if you don't want to spend hours working Menzerna polish in by hand.
Thanks for the heads up. How do you go about compounding? I was planning on using an uber yellow pad and folding it in half and rubbing in the compound by hand. That space is really tight as you know.
It was tough getting in between the chrome trim surrounding the shifter and the soft touch vinyl on the side, but I spent about 30 minutes working it by hand and it game out to almost 100% correction. I used a regular yellow foam pad with UC and it worked very well, although I probably could have saved some time by initially using those green finger pocket foam applicators and finishing with the yellow foam pads.
